    Asus A7sv Notebook

    I recently bought a Asus A7sv notebook from Newegg.com.

    At first I was estatic, it was a very nice looking notebook, had a huge screen and I couldn't wait to pop a few games on there and give it a try.

    I started it up and after logging on I was promptly greeted by a BSOD from Vista... I tried endlessly to fix it but never could. So I install XP and finally got most of the drivers installed and everything appeared to be working correctly.

    Then I tried to play World of Warcraft. I started up the game and then the screen went black and only the cursor was visible. It locked up the system badly. I tried to play counterstrike 1.6, which worked, but the graphics were choppy and slow.

    A few questions:

    Does anyone have this notebook with a 8600M GS Nvidia card and has gottent the graphics to work correctly? I have been trying some drivers from laptopvideo2go but so far no dice.

    Is it possible to get the LED's to work again? So far only the power light works, not the bluetooth/wireless/charging light.

    I have 1 uninstalled driver for PCI Memory. Anyone know which driver I need to get that to work?

    I also recently purchased an A7SV and have had similar problems from day one. The problems ( BSODs ) seemed to escalate to the point where the unit was virtually unuseable so I returned it to an ASUS repair centre.

    They admitted there was a problem but could not specify what so ended up with a new HDD and RAM. On return of the unit I performed a product/system recovery and downloaded/installed the latest ASUS display driver and Intel Turbo Memory and Matrix Storage driver. I was suspicious of the new Intel features.

    I am no longer getting BSODs but an intermittent "display driver not responding... driver restarting" problem. Often enough to be very annoying. I have disabled the intel features, even after installing the latest driver, but still experiencing the display problem. I have considered trying the modified laptopvideo2go drivers but decided to fish around a few forums first.

    I did email ASUS online tech service 2 weeks ago but no reply. Also posted on the ASUS A7SV forum yesterday under "Milli" only to be closely followed by a post from France outlining the same issue. No replies so far.

    It appears others are also suffering with the A7SV. Hopefully a resolve will be forth coming from some direction!!!!

    I do suggest trying the modded drivers.

    if those don't work either it might be something wrong with the GPU hardware...

    Its been a few days and no real information has come to hand about the A7SV display issue. I've even spoken to ASUS techies in Australia who, at this point in time, have no knowledge of the problem. Funny though, as others around the globe with the A7SV seem to be experiencing the same problem. As a last resort, prior to sending it back to a ASUS Warranty Repair Centre and hoping for a mainboard replacement, I'm going to try a modified Nvidia driver from:

    The modified display driver did not work along with a number of other driver updates and Vista SP1 install. Others starting to emerge on the ASUS A7SV forum with the exact same problem.

    I've booked the A7SV in for its third trip to an ASUS repair centre. Lets hope they get it right this time!

    Zeplin I wish you ALOT of luck getting any intelligent or professional response from ASUS, they are a bunch of babaling idiots.


    I am in the U.S. and I purchased an A7sv series, back in march. and I have sent my unit in for repair for BSOD's 4 times. not 2, nor 3 but 4. I have been experiencing the same problem over and over and over again to the point where I am beyond frustration and I virtually expect the unit to blow up in my face hopefully destroying it so I can buy a new under my USAA insurance lol.

    anyway I have had the same 07F stop error and I recently had a stop 08E just about 15 minutes ago. and I, once again am going to send the unit in for repair a 5th time, and speak with a tech agent who doesnt speak english saying that they cannot replicate the problem, wipe my HD, replace my RAM and send it back to me only to have it BSOD 2 hrs after I open the Box. I really dont understand how they cannot acknowledge the SAME problem people have all over the World.

    in other notes, I have noticed that my unit BSOD's on the exact times of 0217 EST and 0157 EST. which baffles me because I cannot think of any possible reason that it would do that unless pre-programmed to.

    I Hope have constructively (though sarcastically) contributed to this vast pool of hope we have created in order to help the new guys out.

    I think I have the solution to this problem. Took the thing apart and noticed they have a thin copper heat sink conducting heat from then GPU to the CPU. Only the CPU has a fan. My theory is the CPU fan is supposed to speed up when the heat coming from the GPU is excessive, but for some reason it doesn't always work. So I just glued on an old desktop CPU fan over the top of hottest part of the GPU area, and soldered it into the power leads for the CPU fan. No problems since.
