    I'm having a hard time deciding whether to get a preconfigured A6Ne (newegg.com) with the following specs: Pentium M 725(1.6GHz) 15.4" WXGA 512MB DDR333 60GB DVD±R/RW Intel Extreme Graphics 2

    total of $1,149.00 after shipping

    or

A configured A6u from proportable.com with the following specs:

    1. AMD® Mobile 64 CPU : Athlon® 64 3200+
    2. DDR333 so-Dimm : 1024 ddr333 (512mb x 2) - Corsair
    3. Hard Drives 2.5" ATA100 : Seagate Momentus 60GB 5400 RPM w/ 8MB Buffer
    4. Optical Drive : Combo Drive (DVD/CD-RW) -Standard
    5. Internal Wireless Card : Intel PRO/2200 Wireless 802.11b/g MiniPCI
    6. Operating Systems : No Operating System
    7. Warranties : 2 years parts & labor w/ 1 way paid shipping

    total of $1,200.41 after shipping

Which is the best choice? I know I want to stick with an Asus because i keep reading that they are solidly built. Also is the Athlon 64 3200+ Turion faster than Pentium M 1.6Ghz? Are the battery life for both about the same?

The a6u is newer then the a6ne, and will be a bit more powerful then the older a6ne. But I'm sure the battery life in the a6ne will be higher.

We also need to know what the laptop is for, etc.

haha oooppss well this is for my dad basically who is looking for something cheap, nice screen, nice battery life (above avg). he will mostly check his email, read CNN stuff, watch streaming videos, and listen to music. yeah i think now that the A6Ne will have better battery too just by looking spec (less power consuming).

A6U is more powerful (faster CPU more DRAM), A6Ne will have much longer battery life. Think the A6U has dedicated video too.

    The a6u doesn't if I recall correctly.

It's the 'budget' AMD laptop from ASUS, someone called it.

    I wish though ;)

If you're on a $1200 budget, you're not going to get much better. However, battery life, good screen..... those are both subjective and from my point of view I can't say either of those A6's are going to do it for you. I'm a bit jaded with the higher end stuff, but for the price you're not going to get anything better. My call would be if you're looking at an A6... get an A6u w/ 2800+ cpu, 512mb ram, 40gb/5400rpm hard drive...... performance wise, do you really think he even needs the specs you're looking at? I usually suggest if someone is looking at something like the A6u, they're requirements are usually very low to begin with.... so try not to put so much into into it. Then you could save some more money anyway.

    But just so you know a 1.6ghz 400mzh fsb pentium-m dothan is about equal to a 2.7-2.8ghz P4...... a 2800+ Mobile Athlon64 is well... equal to a 2.8ghz P4 or better... that's what the 2800+ means.

I say neither one of those. Go for centrino. You will not regret it. Z63a would fit your budget.

A6Ne is a centrino isn't it? I have a higher end A6 myself... Paid about $1250 but that was overseas. Not sure you will need all the power of the A6U

well guys i went ahead and bought an Asus but not one of the previously mentioned. its the Z70A from ynot2k.com with the following specs: centrino 1.73ghz 533fsb, 512mb ddr2 pc4200 (single channel), 40gb hitachi/wd 5400rpm 8mb cache, a/b/g wifi, dvd/rw, and a 1 yr extended warranty for total of $1266.95 after shipping.

what u think? Z70A kicks both A6Ne and A6u on the butt? i didn't pay (credit card) with "cash payment" so i don't get the 2% cash discount.

i still have 48 hours to cancel my order without penalty. :D
my biggest deciding factor for choosing ynot2k is their store rating.
