My son has an Asus 1201HAB netbook that he uses for 6th grade schoolwork. Unfortunately, it is currently out of commission because the battery has run down and it will not power up through the AC power supply.

I ordered a new power supply, thinking perhaps the original had "gone bad," but we get the same result with the new one. The "light bulb" indicator on the front edge of the netbook does not light up, the netbook does not appear to be charging, and the netbook will not power up.

I would greatly appreciate any help with diagnosing the problem. Is it simply a dead battery? Is the AC port on the netbook possibly "bad"? What else might be the issue?

Thank you so much for any assistance.

*most* likely, the power jack on the laptop is bad. Very common issue (among hardware issues).

There are ways to get it fixed, though I'd recommend contacting ASUS and being patient.

    Welcome to NBR! :)

Thank you very much for the welcome and the quick response to my desperate plea! :)

The netbook isn't quite a year old, so I will take your advice, contact Asus and hope it is something that is covered under the 1-year parts warranty instead of the 6-month power supply and battery warranty.

well, be adament the laptop itself is at fault, and the the PSU. having two seperate warranties for parts is wierd, I guess ASUS must of changed their policies when I wasn't looking :p

Also, still hang around for about a day or two, just incase if there still is another suggetion (like a boot key combo that reverts a BIOS charging option - which is present on some laptops [why even bother disable charging from the BIOS? I dunno. But it's present as an option on my laptop, too]).
