I just bought an S5A and i'm having a huge amount of trouble with the fan noise. When it's plugged in the fan goes from 0 to 2600 rpms within about 20 seconds. Then the fan stays on no matter what's going on. Yesterday i left it with no programs running for about 40 min, came back, and the fan was at 2600rpm and the temp was 55 deg c. I've called asus and they were no help and told me to talk to my dealer, and my dealer told me to talk to asus. It sounds awful with no programs running, but if i just have itunes/internet browser it gets worse, particularly everytime you move the mouse. this can't be normal right, how can i take care of this?

55C is completely normal. Your fan may be damaged or the ball bearings may be going bad but i am pretty sure the s5a snd most other 12" have the same problem. Fan has to stay on. You can try contacting your dealer for a replacement fan. Asus is not suposed to tell you to go back to your dealer for their ensemble line as they are the ones who warranty it. You may not have made that point clear to the rep there. Another option is getting the fan looked at. Its suposed to be notiable but certainly not unbearable. You can contact your dealer for the fan issue. If they dont help you I would be glad to send you a new fan or if you sent in your old one we can check it out. There is no charge. Most 12" notebooks will make noticeably more noise then their counterparts. Most that i have seen anyways. Another thing you can try is a bios update. Asus periodically changes their bios. Sometimes making the fan more or less loud by changing rpm speed. I would say ask your dealer to tak a look at if asus does not think that fan noise is a issue that can be addressed. I ve seen a few s5a and i can say the fan noise is withing "legal" limits. :)
