I bought a Z70Va about 4mo. ago... and it has been back to Asus once and will have to go back again for unrelated problems.

Bad Display inverter right out of the box, back to Asus for repair.

Now i seem to be having the sound card problem that many people seem to be having. it will have to go back again, but its mid-semester, and i cant really part with it.

Should i expect to be having a serious hardware failure every other month? seems to be how the pattern is going. Is his "normal" for notebooks? "normal" for asus? the notebook wasn't cheap, i had alot of options when purchasing, and frankly, the other options are looking good right now.
Its pretty awsome when my friends/classmates ask me about my new notebook, "oh, its back getting repaired, AGAIN". The only saving grace is the asus warranty service in canada is actully pretty good, and the notebook isn't gone for very long, it just a pain to keep ripping it apart. and boxing it up. If I wouldn't lose so much money on it i am at the point of unloading it and moving into somebody elses product.

Are there any other known problems with this unit that i should have addressed when it goes back in a month and a half?

I have read posts about people changing the audio boards themselves, but i have heard times from 5min to 4hrs. (although 5min and not user serviceable doesn't sound right to me) I have seen the disassebly manual, and changing the audio card which takes 5min, and installing bluetooth which i understand is very diffcult look like the same amount of dissasembly, go figure; either there is a trick, or somebody underestimating service times.

I would like to hear about anybody elses trouble, either im alone and bought a lemon, or these problems are common and need to be voiced.

    Thanks.

The Z70va is a great machine. But it had two issues. One the sound board and the red ghosting issue. THe red ghosting doesnt exist anymore. I dont think you should have any more trouble just bad luck sometimes. I have had great luck with my asus machines i have owned 5 i think. Overall they are very well built. Sorry you have had trouble though.

hardyn, looks like you have no support here.

I also love the Asus models I have...so much so that I'm going to be buying a third model sometime this summer. I've also had to use Asus customer support over warranty issues, and everything worked out great. ASUS simply RULES :)

hardyn, LAptops are machines, they will breakdown, also there's still have 5-10% manufacturer defect rate, in which the very few unlucky people would get several problems.

I believe there are soo many people that own the ASUS Z70va and are not located on any of the 3 forums that are simply happy with it.

Also the amount of money you put in usually correlates to the quality you get out.

For example you put 2000$ into a Z70va, you get an awsome machine, well built, carbon fibre alloy chasis, with a BEAUTIFULL screen.

I can go get an Acer 8204, pay 2500$ and get a decently built laptop, not good screen, but awsome specs and performance.

Yet i'm sure both laptops will have a 5-10% manufacturer rate of problems, and both notebooks could be problem free or have several problems.

All in all, basicaly with your warranty you can't loose out, things will hopefully only get better, as ASUS fixes all the problems as they come (knock on wood that no more occur).

Hope this clears some stuff for you

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

Certain machines have more problems. I heard the z63as and w3v where one of the more reliable asus. the z70va had a decent failure rate. mystic though 10% is pretty high i though it was 3-5 but im sure it depends on models as well.

no complaints here with my z70va other than hard drive temps but that's more to do with this dang texas heat and the hard drive itself. i'd say you're pretty unlucky but of the standard unlucky kind as u've only had to face the standard problems with the z70va and havent had any extremely weird things. but after u get this sound card thing fixed i wouldnt expect any more problems to be popping up as the screen and the sound card have been the only major sources of problems for the majority of z70va's.

The z70vas audio board issue is a pretty small issue, Tho we had alot of rma for it most people dont even bother. Some people get an audigy card. From what i hear it disables onboard sound. The biggest problem is the red ghosting which was solved many months ago i havent seen rma for it recently but thats not asus fault. It was all samsung. I wouldnt call it a defect more of an unlucky streak with samsung. The audio dj is definitely a defect because its made by asus. other then that you got the people that run it 24/7. So far in the last few months we have cleaned about a dozen z70v and z70va's. People run then 24/7 as it seems. Most laptops if you run 24/7 will get completely clogged. No big deal becuase you can clean out the cpu radiator but you cant clean the gpu radiator, The new laptops now use one radiator for both so thats a blessing.

Am at the center of a field near my wife's office waiting to take her for breakfast.. And I am replying you on my Asus W5F... Its one of the best notebook I've owned.. the other being a X21. However, the Asus booast a build quality that few can compare in today's portable market.. AND VALUE FOR MONEY!!! You dun pay gold to get a lemon.. Asus bundles the best possible configuration with their various models.

Really LOVE IT and thanks for Notebookreview forum that exposed me to this make.. Now I believe I would be a follower of Asus as long as they continue building such fantastic notebooks. :D

    Personally...no way.

...and it could be said that you're not really getting an "Asus" unless it's an Ensemble.
