How do you think an ASUS laptop would hold up in Iraq? I am comparing to a T60p (or T61p when released). I like the gaming ability from Asus but am not confident in it's heat disopation and reliability/stability. Thoughts?

Depends which model, as the cheaper consumer models are built with plastic, while their higher ends are better built.

But it's not just case quality... I need to know that it's going to be stable and handle heat well.

Well, for all notebooks, gaming may require a cooling pad for maximum air ventulation - which may be necessary in Iraq.

The G1p is known for a slightly bulkier body which provides better air flow, and the V1 has a weaker x1700 but is thinner.

The G1-AK024C seems like a nice lappy

I'm just having a hard time thinking about waiting for a T61p with nVidia 570M card.

And the G1-AK024C seems like it still might kick the T61p's butt in gaming. Oh man... this is dangerous thinking!!!

I would suggest the A8js. its cheaper with the same processor and graphics card. Some people complain about the screen, but it has not been a problem for me. I know a guy just posted that he has his A8js in the field in Iraq, and all he does is blow it out once a week with compressed air. I take mine to training once in a while, and will be taking it to albania this summer. I think the build quality is sufficient to last you regular use at a FOB. Good luck.

Yes that's a nice one too, but it's a 14", smaller drive, and less ram. I plan to watch many movies so I am looking for a widescreen.
