According to THIS document from Asus the M50SV has an MXM connector! This might mean that the M50VM series has an MXM connector as well and can be upgraded when new cards become available.

I am going to assume the connector is MXM type II, so technically the only upgrade would come with the C90P. But still, if this is true, then the M50VM is even MORE attractive.

Also if this is true, and the connector is in fact MXM-II, us poor C90S users could "upgrade" to the 9600M GS. This card is about equal to the DDR3 version of the 8600M GT and runs MUCH cooler. Food for thought.

I have e-mailed Asus and I'm awaiting there response as I type this. Keep in mind this could all be wrong. However, coming from the manufacturer, it's a pretty reliable source.

They might not be standard MXM cards. Meaning the standard cards might not fit the notebook or the heat sink physically.

This is true. It could be a "non standard MXM card", such as the cards that are "reversed". These cards are not usually referred to as "MXM" though because they don't follow NVIDIA's specification. Most the time they are just called "module cards" by the manufacturers. However, I'm betting it's an MXM-II, and then it would look pretty much like this:

Those four screws mounts are pretty much the same with all Asus MXM-II cards so I have faith! What we really need though is someone daring enough to crack one open and prove me right or wrong. I have hope though : )

Hate to break it to ya but it looks exactly like the same formfactor as the F8 series A8 series modular graphics card format. Their VBIOS are programmed to detect the notebook version and will not boot up if it's anything otherwise. Now I'm not sure if you were to interchange the F8 series with the M50VM series, so that may or maynot work.

(Edit by mod, replaced picture with link as it was huge and it caused a lot of scrolling :) )

Even if it is MXM interface connector, there doesn't seem to be the proper screw mounts. You will to heavily modify the M50 heatspreader or contruct your own to fit the C90S.

    D3X,

Thanks for the picture and info. This along with Ken's (GentechPC) confirmation that the video card does not have it's own bios, puts this issue to rest. Looks like the card fits the MXM form factor but not the specification.

No upgrading or swapping can be done with "true" MXM cards. Crap : / Good information anyway. I'll edit the title of this post as well.

    Thanks again guys.

I know this is an old topic but, Can we put a flippe MXM from a F8 into a flipped MXM from A8JS? My graphics card fried. and If I can put a gforce 8x00 instead of a gforce 7700 it would be great. If I have to get stuck with 7700 I might just disassemble the laptop and sell the parts( which I really dont want to)

I know that the G50 series were sporting a flipped MXM connector.
