I have recently purchased an ASUS N61JV and after looking at the ASUS support page I see there are several updates for components, including the BIOS. But I can not find a procedure for updating the BIOS.
Is it possible to just click on the files and update the BIOS, or is there a certain way of doing it?
thanks in advance

Basically just avoid flashing with a BIOS file on NTFS and you should avoid the terrible fate of bricking your machine.

ASUS has given these 5 updates to BIOS, do you think these are necessasry to get updated? And in which order should I update them?
BIOS 224
1.Firmware update.
2.Fix system has chance to hang at 0x0d during POST.
BIOS 222
Fix there are noises under AC mode.
BIOS 220
Firmware change
BIOS 219
Fix can not pass EMI test.
BIOS 217
Fix can't boot to OS after F9 recovery. -
You only need to do the most recent version 224, they are cumulative.
If you are not having any problems, i would not flash the BIOS at all.
NTFS vrs FAT32, when you format the USB stick in windows, per the procedure, use fat32 (under file system dialog) NOT NTFS. -
Isn't it possible to run the file update directly from the main hard drive lets say C: ? In my laptop there is a program from ASUS calls WinFlash to update BIOS. After starting it, it asks to point to the file to update the BIOS. Can it be done in this way?
To run the update file through a USB flash drive, it has to be formated in FAT 32 and then copying the files onto it and restart, right? -
There are mixed reports on winflash, some swear it works fine, other says avoid using it EVER! (I would never use easyflash from windows)
Yes put the extracted BIOS file on the fat 32 USB drive and power on notebook, hit f2 a few times shortly after power on to enter the BIOS screen. In BIOS screen find easy flash ....
BTW YOu are being very cautious that is GOOD! a failed BIOS flash can cause your machine to not startup. The procedure linked by the immortal ALURgroceries is very well written.
