So i updated my drivers to Catalyst 5.7 and now my x600 has a memory size of 256mb instead of the 320mb i had before i updated. I'm running on 1gb of ram, anyone else run into this problem...does it even matter?

I believe the new drivers are showing the actual amount used (which is more accurate) instead of the actual amount possible.

running cat5.7s with my W3V, X600 shows as a 256MB card with 1.5GB of ram installed. I think ATi capped it at 256MB

can you guys post a link to the drivers....cause everytime i try installing it from ati's site it says i need to set it up as a VGA adapter? Doesnt make much sense to me but heres the link ive downloaded the drivers from https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27
anyone got any ideas on what it could be?

oh btw i did check to make sure that it is a x600.

    http://www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst/

this is the link i used to get the mobility 5.7... i also thought it was only for x700 and x800... but i guess it works. I dont really like the Catalyst Control Center though.

Are you sure there is full compatibility? Why would they not list x600 if it was for it as well? Odd... did you see any performance increase from the ones asus provided? Im still reading 128mb with 1gig of ram with the asus ones... maybe this one may increase hypermemory... dunno... is the controlcenter included in the DL?

the list of supported cards from the drivers are:
    "ATI MOBILITY FIRE GL T2/T2e"
    "ATI MOBILITY FireGL V3100"
    "ATI MOBILITY FireGL V3200"
    "ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5000"
    "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9500"
    "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9550"
    "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series"
    "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9800"
    "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300"
    "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600"
    "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600 SE"
    "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700"
    "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X800"
    "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X800 XT"

there's a discussion going on about them over at driverheaven: http://www.driverheaven.net/showthread.php?t=79461&page=1&pp=15

There seems to be a small resolution problem with 9600 / 9700 cards, but everything else is working fine

Just put on cat 5.7 and I now also have 256 after only having 128 with the 5.6.. odd you had 320 some though.... yeah the clock seems low though... also i looked on sandra and it was reading only 128mb.. dunno what is right... 3dmark also was reading 256 so im hoping that it is 256... oddly enough though my 3dmark03 scores have been very wierd... with 5.6 and no overclocking 2 begin with i was getting 3200 and then after some ocing the stock values only gave me 2900 then with the new 5.7 its back up 2 3200... odd... maybe something to do with the 128mb change to 256... either way im happy to see the 3dmark go up... :) i was kinda pissed ocing had screwed my card somewhat... thx for the screen shot... and yeah ur mem / core seems low... the stock before was 400/250...

Note that the clockspeeds reported by the tool are dependent on the PowerPlay mode you are in. The 'balanced' mode cuts clockspeed roughly in half for the core, and 3/4 for memory... the 'power saving' mode cuts clockspeed to nearly 1/4th for core and 1/2 for the memory.

Therefore, the clockspeeds you are seeing are correct... you will see the clocks go back to normal once you plug your laptop into AC.

I got the same exact error message, CLI.exe cannot run.

So I uninstalled that Catalyst 5.7 driver and went with the Omega drivers, and it works great. It also implements the Catalyst 5.7 driver.

is thier a concensus on which Driver is better, has someone run some benchmarks with the ATI's 5.7 and then the Omegas 5.7 to see which is better?

ok ... will try again with msn messenger 7 installed... would that do it... should right? i might try omegas aswell and see how they go... some have said that they are not stable? any reports of instability? if so how? im kinda reluctant to stray from ati... as its very much tried and proven... but dont know... ill start a poll and maybe we'll get better / more conclusive results

Ok when I first got my W3V stock I ran 3dmark03 and got 2997. I just installed ATI's Cat5.7 then ran 3dmark03 and got 1557. So I uninstalled them, then reinstalled the W3V provided drivers and got 3227 with everything still stock. Anyone else have a dramatic drop in proformance with the ATI Cat 5.7 drivers?

    I'm getting around 3000 3dmark03's running under cat 5.7's
