The simple problem i requested help for:
    [Problem Description]
Almost any USB or perpetual i put into my ASUS G1 i am getting these messages that say to please
install the driver. The thing is these things DO NOT NEED drivers! My ipod doesn't even get detected
and when using bluetooth it asks for drivers too (definitely does not need).

The odd thing is my ASUS mouse (got drivers), my Integral USB (didn't ask, the way it should be) and
my Brother HL2040 printer works fine (i put in the driver CD as is common).

    Thanks.

And now for the most illegible, juvenile and complicated 'fix' for this problem that has little to no relevance to my initial request (note: this reply was not altered in anyway, shape or form, as i love my ASUS G1 and wouldn't dare to mock ASUS but this was too stupid to ignore

I don't know about you guys but to me this says:
    "Dear [enter name here]

This is our standard reply. It has no relevance to your particular request. We are outsourced from poorer countries to cut costs with no training, spelling or grammar lessons.

Format your hard drive, reinstall everything and hope for the best. If all goes wrong after spending hours attempting to fix your issue, then your screwed.

Good luck (your gonna need it)."

Hmmm, a standard reply, yes but it's not an unusual one. Perhaps call them and see if it's any better on phone.

As well, it looks like an isolated problem, I'd say it was the OS installation, as USB ports usually work 'Plug and Play' style.

plus the first two suggestions are the most likely reasons for the usb failure... have you tried them yet?

no problems on my g1s here, just had to use usb to load some bench utils. I think the reply there should have been cut short to "please resintall your oerating system using the included restore disk". you are contacting them about an obvious software issue. the first course of action is to reinstall your os. I dont even know why you contacted them. asus or anyothe rmanuf would not be able to help you with a user error other then "reinstall the windows". what did you expect? Any decent tech knows the difference between hardware defect and soft issue caused by user or the programs he loaded. My first reaction to your inquiry would have been much shorter and to the point. "resintall your os". i think you are overreacting to say the least

What does Asus being from Taiwan have to do with anything? Not like US tech support is done through Taiwan.

So where is the US tech support done through? US?
Just trying to point out that the US are not being outsourced since Asus is not a US company.

Asus USA will outsource it like any other company. It is not something unique to the USA. Taiwan would be too expensive for tech support. Asus Germany does its tech support through Ireland and Poland. Not sure where US tech support comes from.

Asus tech support in use is right here in fremont cali. one service center with all tech present there. I know half of them by name and I know the eldest of all of them since they started in fremont. Thjere is no oursourcing there. Not that it is a good thing. Like any other company they will not help you with user errors or soft issues. reinstall the windows is the first advice you should expect for any issue other then a known hardware defect
