Well after a bit of a wait the W1N is here. It looks much the same as the M6 specs wise although one hopes that they have not limited the clock speed on the GPU on the W1N.

    Heres the link.

WOW!!! This is a pretty sweet unit. How are the Asus brand of notbook for quality, support & warranty? I've primarily owned HP/Compaq & Toshiba notebooks, but always use their motherboards.

I have found ASUS to be a good value notebook maker. That is quality is of a high standard but I think there is room for improvement, but considering the price that you pay I doubt you will get a better notebook. I have yet to have any need for ASUS support, or the 2 year warrenty that comes standard. So I can't comment on how good that is. But from all reports there doesn't seem to be any major problems and issues are usually fixed promtly. For eg the 15" screen on the M6 series.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that from my limited experience their notebooks are as good as their m/b

I was wondering the same thing. Not only when it will be available, but what the price will be for a unit with this many options.

There are places in europe advertising it for sale currently (eg http://www.elctec.de/shop/shop.php?navid=41&art=6690&lang=1). Apparently it was released in italy first? not sure why?? but prices are ranging from 1700-2000 euros.
Depending on configuration. From this I'm guessing that it will be around $2-2500 in the states and should be available within the next month.
Guess we will wait and see !

Yeah, that's the price rage I was thinking. In Canadian Dollars, that would be between $2600-$3300. A bit on the pricey side, but I guess you get a lot of bang for the buck for this unit.

They probably don't have them available yet, but they're taking orders and will ship when available. I can't guarantee that they're legit, but it sounds ok. If you're talking about the price I listed earlier, my prices are in Canadian dollars, just multiply US dollars by 1.3 and you should get the approx amount in Canada.

Not sure if its a legit place, but the reports that Ive heard are that the W1N should be turning up instores within the next 2 weeks. So its quite possible that that is for real.
    Very tasty !

Was just at my local newsagent flipping thru this months APC mag (http://www.apcmag.com/apc/v3.nsf/dir/latest), and noticed quite a few ASUS adds with big pics of the W1N, base specs are 1.7 PM, 64Mb ATI 9600 with WSXGA screen, no mention of WXGA, which sounds good, also guessing that this means that shops should be stocking this baby real soon.
Also noted that they were advertising a new L5D model with 128Mb ATI9600 GPU rather than the FX5600. No mention of these altered specs anyware on ASUS's website. Will be interesting to see if this is real. Looks like June could be a great time to buy with the arival of all these new models!

Here is a place to purchase or check out some spec for the Asus W1000N.

    http://store.agearnotebooks.com/154display.html

Take a look at some nice pictures of the W1N:

    http://store.agearnotebooks.com/asusw1nphotos.html

    Check out the packaging....nice!

Now, this is a machine that looks like it is worth the $2000-$2500 that I am gonna spend. Too bad it does not have the ATI 9700 with 128 mgs.

Does anyone have a site where they have more complete specifications of this machine? Do you own one yet? If so, tell me about it?

This is the company I work for and we have been doing business since 1980. We do have the W1, and they have been selling like crazy. The coolest thing is that through us, you can configure it any way you want. Please visit our site and have us build a W1N for you.

Awesome. Do you plan to offer a complete barebone system at all? I have a majority of the parts already and it'd be great if it were possible to just order the laptop case/motherboard. I know several other e-tailers offer this with some of the other Asus models.

Here's a Canadian retailer for the W1N, seems overpriced for what you can get in the M6's...

To StarTech: A couple of questions:
    (1) Does customizing the W1N with a Dothan CPU void the Asus 2 yr intl warranty in any way?
    (2) When do you expect to have the model with a built-in TV tuner in stock for shipping to customers?
    Thanks.
