If you could afford a vx7sx, i'd recommend looking at alienware, sager or msi for better GPU at the same price range or lower.

I agree with the Dragon, With the G73 you will be getting features geared toward gaming (lit keyboard , gaming mouse) and may be lacking features that you need. I would wait till early December to decide, AW, or Sager may have a refreshed model
Something like this with an SSD as the boot drive and an upgraded video card should meet your needs

In the Sager I mentioned you can get this nVidia Quadro FX3800M 1GB GDDR3 for a little over $1000 US.
I have read that the latest AW's have optimus so battery life (over 4 hours ) is excellent. From what I read Asus support can be variable, and they seem to hesitate to replace units with repeated issues.
If I went with another ASUS I would recommend gentechpc, they will test your machine before shipping to you, and Ken Lee will give you great advice and service before & after the sale.

At this point, I have not seen an ASUS machine that supports those cards. Usually, they focus on the gaming side so I don't expect to see one in the near future.

Wrong. My Alienware M17x R3 with 2630QM and Radeon 6970M got 5 hours of battery life on the integrated graphics. That's right, 5 hours.

My G73JH got 2 hours in comparison.

Exactly right, the integrated graphic work fine for internet surfing, email , etc but you can not run high end games on them. That is a great feature that AW provides.
AFA the 3800 Quadro card, it has 256 bit bus (most mobile cards are 128 or 192). It is designed for Autocad, scientific , etc. I would not pay the premium price for it unless my employer was paying.

Flix, You might want to look at something like this Dell
The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

I am not recommending it, but it is designed for your original purpose (3d animation ..)
Or check out a forum that is associated with the main application (Lightware 3d ??) you will be using for more specific recommendations. From what I have read 1 Gig Video RAM is sufficient for gaming, but in your case more may be benefical (this needs to be researched further).
If you want window and applications to load quickly get a 128 gig SSD (sata III) and a 750 GIG conventional HDD for storage regardless of what laptop you choose.

when i hear a word " SSD ", the first thing i've in my mind is " SUPER EXPENSIVE!" .lol :D
why MSI don't have any quadro card in their laptop, that's shame!
anyway, i don't like Dell products, they are way too overprice...
is it really does matter with GTX and quadro?
