I'm having an issue where the majority of "newer" games won't work. The symptom is always the same with them all.

The games will start up, usually with the initial loading screen, but whenever I try to go past that, the game freezes, goes into a non-responsive mode and I have to ctrl alt del to close it. I've tried several different drivers from older ones, to most recent stable, and even beta drivers for my 540M. That hasn't changed anything.

I've also looked at the "fixes" individually for the games, but none of those ever work for me. I can never get to any in-game menus or anything past the opening credits.

Some of the games this has happened on: GTA IV, GTA SA, GTA VC, Train Simulator X, and some others that I cannot remember.

I can play a lot of games successfully however such as CS 1.6 & Source, Tropico 4, Dead Island, TF2, Deus EX etc.

I've updated everything that I can think of to, and I get no actual error messages so it's hard to pinpoint.

This has always happened since I bought the laptop, it has not been just a recent occurance.
I'm wondering if it's some sort of 540M specific problem or something.
    Thanks for any help.
