My ASUS laptop, N61Jq Series. Basically sometimes the wireless adapter will turn off on login. So sometimes when I login the computer the wireless adapter is turned off. Never actually turns off during wireless browsing, so it's not a reception issue, i get full bars when internet is functioning.

However, the issue gets more confusing. On my account, my main account, when i 'check for a solution', it notifies me that the wireless adapter is off and would you like to turn this on? I click 'apply this fix', problem solved!

BUT, my second account that i allow other people use (also an Administrator account), when they go through this step, there is no notification explaining that the wireless account is turned off and if i want to turn it on. It just says that the problem was unable to be detected but if you click under 'additional findings', it says the network adapter is disabled but no indication to turn it on. I checked the device manager and i noticed that the device is infact still enabled.

    Keep in mind:
-the device is plugged in the entire time during these steps
-the adapter 'Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter' has the lastest drivers installed
-i don't have a virus, i have checked it recently

Do anyone have an idea for this solution? Perhaps a method to force the Network Adapter on.....

ARe you running VISTA or Win 7?
Did you get your driver from the ASUS site or another site?
Is the problem consistent with the seconday account?

i have seen similar not exactly same on my hp with vista. wireless does not work for one user and works foe other. The problem is solved by deleting saved wireless network and connecting again (need to enter network key).

    thanks for the quick replies!

Sorry my mistake, i am using windows 7. And i will try to remove the remembered wireless account and then re-connect by re-entering the encrypted key. However, i am uncertain this will resolve my issue because the network adapter itself isn't powered on. (ie. the wireless bar icon at the bottom right of my screen shows a big fat red 'X' and the wireless bars are greyed out behind it)....

As for the drivers, these were pre-installed on my laptop and i did try to update the drivers from the device manager as noted before but again it said i have the latest drivers...

If core2avis's fix does not work, Download the latest driver for wireless card. Try booting to safe mode with out networking, remove the driver, then boot to regular mode and install the latest driver. Note sometimes ASUS does not have the latest drivers on their download page, but I would try there first.
