Using the latest drivers from intel for my 3945abg. Running vista. The power buttons on the computer don't work for me enabling/disabling the wireless as the proset utilities control this, and they are not vista compatible.

So I have to go into the Mobility center in Vista to turn on/off my wireless card. Problem is, I can turn it off no problem. When I go back into mobility center, the "Turn On" is greyed out. So I have no way to turn it back on without having to reinstall the drivers. Any help/suggestions?

Hmm, same problem here. I never thought of it as an issue though because on my NB ATK driver and Wireless Console 2 handle everything, both from tray icon and on keyboard.

Maybe if all other third party software is uninstalled, leaving just Windows to control, will Mobility Center work. However you lose your button functionality.

One thing for sure -- Intel Proset software, even in XP, would interfere with Windows networking. You must choose one or the other to control your wireless.

If you turn off the wireless from mobility center, it'll actually turn off the whole device. After the device has shut down, mobility center cannot restart it..

In the current state mobility center sucks at controlling wireless devices.

So what options do I have to turn off the wireless when not in use to conserve battery?

You shouldn't need Proset software to turn wireless off/on, all I have installed on my Asus notebook are ATK hotkey/drivers and wireless2 console.

Interesting. Ill look into updating the ATK Hotkey drivers. Right now the key for turning on/off wireless does nothing .

I use that and it doesn't have an effect. It shows as disabling WiFi but Windows tells me I'm still connected wirelessly, and I am. Has anyone successfully gotten Intel's software to work on Vista? The installation program opens and then closes when I try it.

I have also a problem with Asus F3JP, Vista and the Intel WLAN. Occasionally the WLAN adapter breaks down somehow and won't work until Vista is rebooted. If I use the on/off switch or hotkeys to switch the wlan off and on, it does switch itself off but not on again.

I bought a U1F recently and it was working great. I am running it with Vista 32 bit.

I have no idea what I did the other day, I think I ran the bios update utility and now the wirelss and bluetooth are off. (and I have no idea how to downgrade)

I can see the "WIRELESS CONSOLE 2" icon in the task bar but it says "OFF".

When I toggle the Fn and F2 keys nothing happens but all the other keys work fine.

In device manager the wirelss card and bluetooth adptor both exist witht he latest drivers.

I have used my recovery cd rom to reintsall the wirless drivers and the wirelss 2 console.

In fact I have tried everything except formatting the HD and reinstalling the OS.

The asus web site is not much help eitehr, I downloaded all the drivers and utilities again and still the same problem.

    HELP!!!

Reinstall the ATK driver and utility, that should take care of the problem.

if the problem is due to lack of ProSet software:

Nowadays with Vista so popular, isn't some version of the ProSet software available in the Vista utils for newer machines? If the older machine uses the same WiFi card, the newer software should work. Even if it's not the same hardware, the ProSet software should not be dependent on the particular type of hardware, so it may still work.
