I will probably upgrade my MCE 2005 G1 OS to Vista Ultimate or Home Premoium but would like to get some feedback on somebody who has already done it. I'm concerned on performance hits, stability or lack of proper drivers (if any).

    Thanks

I wouldn't do an upgrade. Do a clean install. All the drivers you will need should be in the Vista Driver thread.

Read through the Vista driver thread. Plenty of people have done it. Myself included, although I have an A8JP.

I,ve done an upgrade from MCE 2005 to Vista and the result is that my pc benchmark indicated a slowing down of 4 times in reading and 3,5 times in writing performances, thus my pc with a 3 Gh P4-531 with 1000 Mb of memory is in fact downgraded to a former 1 ghz, a setback of 4 years.

in addition some drivers can be lacking.

Now that Vista's been out for some time, it shouldn't be all that bad to install.

I finally installed a clean version of Home Premium on my G1. Loving it! for sure some drivers still need improvement but in time things should be ok.

Glad to hear it - I'll probably ghost my XP system about 1 minute before I change to Vista

Here's a question for you both, did you upgrade or clean install? I've got a lot of apps that I don't want to have to re-install like MS SQL 2000 with loads of data.
