    Hijacked from News Page:

    http://www.wirelessiq.info/content/newsfeed/7082.html

    Excerpt:

To meet growing performance and mobility demands, Airgo Networks, Inc. and ASUS today announced development of the ASUS A6T, the first laptop to have the embedded capability of achieving 240 Mbps Wi-Fi performance. The adoption of True MIMO Gen3 technology by ASUS signals that Airgo's technology is being adopted by the PC OEM market at a time when True MIMO market share is increasing rapidly in the consumer and SOHO retail market. Built around AMD's Turion 64 X2 mobile technology multi-core processor and Airgo's Gen3 True MIMO chipsets, the ASUS A6T, is one of the only wireless laptop solutions capable of providing users faster-than-Ethernet networking speeds, clearly surpassing the performance of Centrino-based solutions.

Woah! WOAH! Really? So Asus is making a move to the new AMD chips? Also, Tony Chen says that this will be their "first branded entry in the US laptop marketplace"? So... are we going to start seeing these things in the big-box retailers?

I've seen some initial reviews on Asus' stand-alone MIMO cards/routers, these things are seriously sweet.

I think it's great that Asus continues to make strides in terms of getting excellent products to market. Looks like they're not tied to Intel (which is not necessarily a bad thing, I'm just saying... ), and they're supporting some revolutionary new technology while maintaining focus on design and performance. I guess I shouldn't be so surprised they they're willing to work with AMD, it's just so often these days that you see proprietary file formats/hardware/etc. that it's refreshing to see a manufacturer branch out.

release date, based on release of the Turion 2X, seems like August.

Since Turion 2x will be released in the summer, then one month for ASUS to put in into production.

    One more month for shipping.

And BAM, August. <- that's my guess

Hopefully it comes out sooner, and i hope its the FIRST notebook to hit the market! but knows.

Initial benchmarks of the Turion 2x compared to Yonah shows that there is an ~5% boost.

Hence Turion 2x is about 25% better than Turion.

Yonah was 20% better than Pent-M

Merom will be 20% better than Yonah. <- Intel speculates

My guess is that Turion 2X will offer equal batterylife to Yonah, but there's a chance it will be slightly higher by 10-30 mins depeding on the technology in the Turion 2x.

    This is just speculation tho.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

Indeed wait, that's all we can do at the moment.

I'm guessing you gonna buy near mid to late august, your choices of laptops will be really wide.

I am in also in the same position as you. I am waiting to see how well Taylor does in real life, and batterylife, and whether it is really worth it over Yonah.

And to see if yonah is really 100% compatible with Merom and that Merom will work 100% and that you would get full benefits from it.

So in the month of August especially, expect alot of things to happen if everything stays on track.

Expect delays tho, and you MAY havta change your mind at the time of purchasing a laptop school, so start preparing a back up plan.

Like the W3J, or V6J. just incase in August things turn ugly.

4 months of waiting to go. lol

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

Haha yeah, hopefully there won't be any delays.

I do have a backup plan though, because the schoo, I'm going to gives every student a laptop so I will just use that one to tide me over.

The reason I'm getting another one is because the ones they give are Lenovo's and are meant solely for school-related things, and you also cannot open them to modify them, there is a police seal on the bottom.

The Asus will be my baby that I will do everything with, and I'll just use the Lenovo to take notes and stuff.

Oh yah, i totaly understand, my friend got the exact same thing from his university, a Lenovo. And then later he purchased another laptop for his own personal needs.

    Thanks,

Now that there is a confirmed release date for the Turion X2, do you think that we will see some new updates on the A6T in the coming weeks?
