Can anyone verify that the a8jm supports SDHC?

It is a J model so probably it does not. The newer models [ (late?) 2007/ 2008 ] do.

I thought SDHC was just a driver/software upgrade from SD...So why can't they give those of us with slightly older notebooks SDHC support? Or is my understanding completely off?

I'm not sure if it's driver or firmware; might be firmware.

In either case, I don't suspect ASUS will be releasing upgrades for all their older models (haven't checked though), just for the sake of making them SDHC-compatible. They usually stop releasing updates for EOL products, and they arent' very good with updates for current products, either.

But still, this leaves us the option of investigating whether the manufacturer doesn't provide that upgrade, or perhaps a newer ASUS notebook with the same card reader hardware but different driver. One would need to do some research, I might do it but not now since I don't have the time.

I would be very interested in a solution though.

I have the A8FM and had to update the drivers to get the SDHC support. There was a member here who posted the website. Do a search and if you cant find it then PM me and I will try and help you out. I don't know how old your model is but I bought mine at the end of 2006 so if yours is newer then I'm sure the drivers will work. BTW, the drivers I am using were NOT made for this specific model. The drivers name is RICOH R5C833. Hope this helps.

Those drivers are not working for me at all. I used the have disk method and restarted maybe 10 times in the past few days.

    Any tips?

    Install this instead:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934428

It seems to have an updated version of the SD card drivers which Microsoft released and supports SDHC.

Both my IOGear and built-in Ricoh SD reader used to ignore SDHC cards, but both read SDHC cards perfectly after applying this patch. No special drivers. :) :) :)

Yes that hotfix worked perfectly! I had to do a System Restore (thank god I left that on) since rolling back the drivers earlier in this thread had no effect. After a restore and hotfix it worked perfectly!

    Thanks a bunch.
