So I see that some people are experiencing their fan spinning on the A8Js full time instead of turning off when idle. Is this an issue with all A8Js owners or only a select few?

    -thanks

If you read this thread I think it pretty much sums it up:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=91637

In short I believe that the fan is always spinning, it will kick in shortly after startup reaching a certain trigger temperature and after that it will spin at 3200 rpm and never stop. The fan can throttle to a higher level that will kick in when doing more cpu/gpu intensive stuff.
Some of us find the sound of the lower level to be really annoying and some of us (Stamar) claim that they can't even hear it or that they need to put their ear to the laptop to hear anything at all. We've been discussing why we can have such different opinions about this. Is it just a matter of perception or is it something else? There is a theory that some a8js models might have a different fan than others but that is not confirmed.
What you can do is to use NHC to control the fan. That way you can set trigger temp levels for the fan and you can also set the level for it to stop spinning. In my opinion that isn't a very big help, it will only get the fan to enter an endless loop where it will start and stop forever, actually more annoying than having it constantly at 3200 rpm.
What would be more interesting but probably not possible is to have the fan spin at an even lower level, something like 1500 rpm. That would lower the noise while (I think) keeping the cpu cool enough. But as far as I know the actual speed isn't possible to adjust in software.

Edit: I have one more theory about the fan. I don't think that there are A8Js models with different fans, it's more likely that the quality of the fan isn't the best so some of us end up with poorly balanced fans that sound a lot and some are lucky to get silent ones. So maybe it's a good idea to test it before you buy.
