I know this topic is posted ad nauseum, but I cannot decide. I have more and more hesitation about the a8jm with some build quality issues, but it is about 200 less. so thats kinda expected.
I also wonder about the screen difference. I was hoping that someone with both of these machines could post some pics of the screen and viewing angles side by side. And just the "feel" of each machine. Does the metal casing feel better? Just a general compairison of the machines and not the specs.

    Thanks in advance.

don't let the material become too much of a factor.. I've seen some "all" abs plastic models feel much more sturdier and have much less flex than some other models *cough Sony Vaio SZ cough* that despite having carbon fibre and magnesium.. flex all over

Hi penguin17 i have looked at both notebooks side by side. I can say that the W3j feels like a more solid machine. However the A8jm really is quite nice also. It doesn't have a brushed aluminum lid and the plastic looks slightly cheaper. It is still quite a solid machine. The main advantages to the A8jm would be the webcam, 5 USB ports, DVI port and cheaper price tag. On the W3j I can only think of looks, and slightly better build quality. I think with either laptop you will be very satisfied. I'm also debating over these two notebooks ;)

I was in the same situation and chose and bought the A8JM. It was less expensive and had more to offer in my opinion, webcam/camera,5 usb and DVI and I wanted the 7600go also. The W3J has it`s brushed bling factor however only time my laptop lid is closed is when I put it in my laptop bag so I never sit and admire lids. Basically same power and benchmarks just the A8JM has more to offer and is cheaper. Will you even notice or care about the brushed aluminum a week or a month down the road? if you do then it`s for you. If your like me and the newness novlety wears off in a few days save a few bucks and enjoy the A8JM :D

Doesn't the w3j have the "bay" that can hold another optical drive or a battery, yet A8jm doesn't?

I'm deciding between the two, also, but I want mine customized so i'll prolly go w/ a8jm and go for portableone's MX

If the a8j would have come to America I probably would have purchased it instead of the w3 for the reasons mentioned above. It is a better value in my opinion. As it stands, my w3 will be here tomorrow and I can't wait!!!

I don't think you could go wrong either way.

I am a bit biased but the W3J with swappable optical bay was the deal breaker for me, means I can run twin HDDS and have spare battery if travelling lond distance, I find this very versatile, and it has intel HD audio, dont know what the A8 has??

Does the A8Jm have an optical bay? Sounds like it doesn't, but that would be really nice for battery life if I could buy an extra internal battery. It's especially nice because there would be no loose battery in my backpack and it would require no battery switching.

No optical bay and has a 6 cell battery, compared to the 8 cell on the W3j. But they happen to use the same battery life with the regular battery.

this is because they are both rated at 4800mAh, so it makes sense

^ i think the A8 can only handle 1 battery at a time; i believe it lacks a "bay"

Anyone know how much the W3j weighs with both the 8 cell battery and the 6 cell modular bay battery. Must be around 5.7-5.8lbs?

from what's been posted it seems the switch between the 6cell and 8 cell is a bit abrupt...i wonder if asus could make it more seamless somehow
