I have just received this laptop about 3-4 weeks ago, I have not updated the bios yet or made any changes for that matter, but the memory is running @ 1:2 (according to CPU-Z) and seems to be running low in benchmarks in SiSandra.

The other thing is when plugged in the core speed rarely goes to 1996 MHz. It's usually where it's at in the attached image.

What do you guys think? Thanks for your help

i am unsure what is going on with your ram, but it is very common for your cpu to be at 997 mhz. your cpu has what is called speedstep. it will throttle down your cpu speed to save energy, giving you however much you need. for word processing and web surfing, 997 is more than sufficient.

There is nothing wrong with either your CPU or RAM. The Napa platform supports a 167MHz FSB, which is quad pumped to achieve the 667MHz FSB speed that is commonly marketed. The RAM by default operates at 2 times the speed of the FSB (hence 1:2) at 333MHz and is then double pumped to achieve 667MHz that is commonly marketed.

And as mentioned already, CPUs even desktop chips now, downclock to the lowest muliplier when idle or under light load. For all Core chips, the lowest multiplier is 6x which multiplied with the 167MHz FSB gives you 1GHz.

OH, well then, sorry for the worthless post, but thanks for the prompt replies. I'm not sure why I'm getting some low benches in SiSandra, what are some other Memory benchmark programs?

    Low scores compared to what?

DDR2 is slow. At 5-5-5-15, it needs atleast 850mhz or higher to even match DDR's 2-2-2-5 at 400 mhz. Yes its sad...

    As far as comparison. . . on the Memory Bandwith benchy, I am getting 3328 MB/s. The first reference chipset is a 945P 2xPC2-5300 CL5 DDR2 (Intel Pentium 4-D 820 2x1ML2) and its score is 4954 MB/s.

Shoudn't I be closer to that? Don't I have the same specs? Thanks
