    Hi,
I'm thinking of getting an Asus notebook after having repeated problems with HP Pavilions. Both of the notebooks in the thread title are a little under $1300 on newegg, and I was wondering which one I should get. I realize the A8Jr is more of a vista machine, with that OS pre-installed and the direct x 10 card, but the A8JP has a T7200 and more video memory. Can someone break down which will be better at what? I'm not anything close to a hardcore gamer, but I like my machine having a decent video card "just in case."

    TIA

Once again, the ATi mobility x2300 IS NOT DX10 Compatible.

Perhaps filling out the FAQ will give us a better idea.

Wow, people still think its DX10. I guess ATI's brilliant naming convention is working great as a marketing strategy.

Sorry to say, but the x2300 is just rebranded x1350. Shame on AMD for playing the "name" game!

There's no comparison, the x1700 on the A8jp will blow it out of the water.

I swear I read somewhere it was a DX 10 card, oh well sorry for confusing it. So is there any reason to get the a8jp then? The only reasons I could see is saving $50 and the single 1gb ddr ram making it easier to upgrade to 2gb total.

the a8jr seems to be a huge flop b/c of the over-hyped x2300. We wont really know I guess how bad/good it is until more people buy it and some reviews come out. But for now, a definite safe bet would be the a8jp for its price, gpu, and cpu power.

Go for the A8JP. You get a more powerful CPU and GPU, as well as an upgrade coupon for Vista.

X1700, it is much more powerful than the X2300 (WHICH IS NOT DX10)

The X1700 wins without leaving its chair.

    X1700
    X2300

The differences are ridiculous! get the A8JP and pretend you never saw the A8Jr

I think everyone is a little bit confused about the x2300. And people really need to stop calling the A8Jr a flop, it has its audience, and its benefits/weakenesses same as the A8Jp/s/m.

The x2300 is pretty much a x1400 with a redesigned structure to take up less space and use less power. It is simple as that. It is not bad, but it is not as good as a x1700s. If gaming is not your main concern, and it is just solid graphic performance, more mobility then the x2300 is good. If you want a gaming machine then you clearly need somethign more powerfull.
It is all based on your needs, but seriously stop calling it a flop, because in the same way the a8jp is also a flop because of its crapp battery life for mobile performance.

wait until someone even tells us what a x2300 is. It doesnt sound very apealing yet.

I think its just like the x1450, its a bottom level gpu that supports the hdcp format. That does make it unique in one sense.
