I pronounce it A-sus... however Asus is a Taiwanese company and I just happen to be in Taiwan right now ;) here pronounce it A-soos.

I think this topic came up before and someone said that originally the company was going to be named Pegasus, but they wanted to be closer to the top in directory listings, so they dropped the "peg" and it became "Asus", which just sounds wierd on its own, if you ask me.

That's an interesting origin. But A-soos really sounds strange :D

I was on a call to ASUS support, and the pronounciation the used was exactly like Dragonesse said... just say "Pegasus" without the "Peg" :)

More like -- "uh-sous" -- if that makes sense

    It's Ah-Seuss, or Ah-soos, like Dr. Seuss :)

And Dragonesse may be correct, there was some speculation that that was the reason the name was formed from one of the heads of ASUS.

i don't know if anybody else here watches ali g, but this discussion reminds me of that bit where borat is at a dating agency and is describing his ideal women to the worker there.
he says "and she must be tight, like a man's an-oos"

and to contribute, i pronounce it "ay-sus", it sounds better that way, even if it is wrong.

Yeah, that's how I usually pronounce it too, even though I'm almost completely certain it's wrong. I like the way "Ay - suhs" sounds over the alternatives.

In my language (croatian) every letter is always pronounced the same way (there is no point in croatian spelling contest for example :)) So Asus - is simply "asus" and rhymes with "mouse"

    Cheers,

    Ivan

coriolis has the closest description of the proper pronunciation. It is actually A-seuss. Strong A followed by suess like Dr. Seuss

What you are hearing when you call them is the Asian accent.

Paladin.. the voice on the phone (you know with the music etc while holding for a rep promoting their products, was definitely NOT Asian. It was perfectly clear English) did say A (weak A not Ay) Sous.

But the weird thing, this morning when I called in again, another ad was playing, and it said Ay-Seuss....

Ah .. who really cares though :)

asus tv ad for w2j. this ad reminds me of this.

i prefer A-sis or A-sus to the proper pronounciation.

asians pronounce things differently. in at least korean and japanese (not 100% sure about chinese) there is no ay sound. the closest is more like eh. if you see any romanized asian words written with an a followed by a consonant, it is most likely pronounced ah. another commonly miss pronounced brand name is hyundai. everyone in the states seems to pronounce it hyun-"die", but it is really hyun-deh....

Yeah, I was also surprised when I called Asus tech support and the English speaking person I got pronounced it "A" Seuss like Dr. Seuss. I felt like correcting him, but then I thought, wait, he works for them, so maybe he's right and I'm wrong.

I pronounce it "A"sss"us", the other way just doesn't sound right, but It's their company, so who are we to argue??? Now that I know how they say it, or want it to be said in Taiwan, I'm having a hard time deciding if I want to pretend to be cool and "in the know" and show off to other's by saying "A" Seuss from now on, or to remain saying it how I'm comfortable saying it, at the expense of someone else thinking I'm a poser, or just don't know how It's officially supposed to be pronounced. I'm really just kidding.

PS, I'm still having trouble trying to rhyme Asus, whichever way you choose to pronounce it with "Mouse"...lol...unless they pronounce "Mouse" as "Moose" where he's from. :)

It's definitely A [Dr.] Seuss. When I went back to Taiwan that's the way it was.

Looks like the company has to conduct pronunciation lessons for all new employees
