    Hello,

I'm looking to get a smaller sized laptop than what I currently have (z71v), so the W5F defiantly looks interesting. However, I have a few questions:

    1. Will it be available in black in the USA? I did a search, and it was mentioned that some were shipped to Canada in black. I don't know If I could live with a "pearl" colored laptop....

    2. What kind of "power" can you get from the on board video. Obviously I know you can't play today's games without a video card, but I'm more interested in knowing if I could play HDTV video on this laptop.

    3. The specs say you can get 3 hours of battery life with this laptop, but I wasn't sure if this was with the 6 or 3 cell battery. Either way, that doesn't sound too promising, considering that manufacturers usually exaggerate about battery life.

    1) Yes, I think the US will get a few in black...most will be white though. Perhaps you can buy on from Canada and have it shipped, too...

    2) Hmm... this I'm not too familiar with.

    3) You'll probably be able to get ~2-2.5 hours of battery life..depends on usage. It's a 6 cell...according to PROPortable.

Asus has changed their tune.... there were a handful of black W5f's in Canada but that's it..... the "focus" is going to be on the pearl white model in both countries... so for the time being you can't get one in the US and if they're not sold out in Canada yet I'd be seriously surprised... but you can check with CanadaSys if black is what you need.

As for the video, check out Intel's side and look at the power of the GMA 950.... it's pretty darn good.

6 cell battery is all that shipped to north america....... so lives are based on that.

I checked out the benchmarks and the previous W5 model got around 450 in 3dmark 2005. That's not terrible, and I can only assume the W5F would be even better than that.

It's not that I think the pearl color is ugly, because it actually looks really nice. I just would rather have black if it were avaiable. What I'm worried about is that I'll order it in white, and then 3 weeks later a black model will be released in the USA.

Well that's not going to happen..... Asus, if anything will bring them over in small amounts like they did last year.... we're probably looking at the summer and maybe 50 will come over... but for ever 1 black one thats sold, they'll sell like 20 white ones.

You've got to be a real man to like and appreciate the pearl..... but it's not like carrying around an ibook... it's a metalic paint that's a lot richer... I prefer that one only because it's helps stick out amoung the other asus systems I've got... but the black is nice too, for sure.

i saw the W5F in black, it is a beautiful machine with a wide screen. Of course, the price is high, but the size is small. It is very portable for carrying everywhere, but a free carrying bag is not available nowaday from Asus!!!

Hi, I bought my W5F (black) at CanadaSys and he said, this new model doesn't includ the carrying bag but have a cool silver bluetooth mouse. Plus, the warranty is 12 months instead of 24 like the W5AE. Asus is starting to be cheap.

No.... you're just not paying for the bag or the extra year warranty anymore... and now it's an option. Asus found most people didn't know their systems had a two year warranty or a bag prior to purchasing... although all were surprised, most apparently replied they would have rathered have the system a bit cheaper or other specs bumped up because they didn't buy the system based on the warranty or the case...... so it's not about being cheap... but responding to their customers comments.

Yeah, you're right. I haven't thought it that way. Then where can I buy the official Asus carrying case for the W5F or W5AE (it's the same 12")?
