    Hello all,

I am about to buy an ASUS N50Vn-B1B from newegg. Here is the link.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220395

    I have a couple questions.

    1. It (appears) to come with Vista 32bit, even though it ships with 4 GB of RAM. Is there any way to get the 64 bit version?

    2. I can't find the max amount of memory anywhere. Is is the 4GB it ships with, or can it be upgraded to 8GB?

    3. It doesn't tell me anywhere what speed the memory is? Can anyone tell me what speed the RAM is?

    Thanks.

not sure, i got mine from xoticpc so my 64-bit os was OEM

I'm pretty sure it can be upgraded to 8gb it ships with 4 gb though

not sure what you mean by this question but i'm pretty sure memory=RAM anyway the RAM is at 800 MHz

    Ok, a couple things.

    1. I called ASUS, and they said it comes with 32bit Vista. Any way to get 64 bit Vista? (the first person at ASUS I talked to said it came with 64 bit, and I got his name, do you think if I called and ed they would send me out a 64 bit CD?)

    2. Everywhere that I could find says the 4GB cannot be upgraded any further. Is this true?

If you order the laptop from XoticPC at www.xoticpc.com you can configure it so that it will come with a 64 bit os as for other resellers i'm not sure whether they offer 64 bit. I'm also not too sure on how to upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit if you want to do that.

One of the members here, sh1nigam1, has upgraded his ram on the n80 to 8gb (4gbx2). If it can be done on the n80 i'm pretty sure it can be done one the n50 since they're both basically the same laptop with different screen sizes

    1. No, Asus doesn't ever ship out alternate non original spec OS discs and calling won't help; the response will be the tech person you spoke with made a mistake, and that fact still doesn't entitle you to it. You have to get the notebook from another reseller who might have the option of 64b install if you really want it.

    2. Asus hasn't / didn't validate it with 4GB ram sticks during initial production as they weren't readily available at the time (this is a common problem as ram capacity has increased - see all the other threads about updating older Asus systems >2GB). It *may* support 2x4GB, but a BIOS update might be necessary for it to function/be recognized and Asus would have to release that in advance. Asus isn't known for doing things like BIOS updates just for RAM increases to satisfy that extreme 0.001% of users who want to do that with a midrange system.
