    Hi,

I just received the G71G-A1 and wondering if the gpu supports DirectX 10.1?

Also, does this laptop support gigabit lan?

    Thanks.

Yes, all Nvidia 9xxx series support DirectX 10.1 as long as Vista is installed. The G71G also supports gigabit lan.

    >.> I'm pretty sure nvidia does not support 10.1 on any of their graphics cards. Only radeon does. Nvidia can support certain functions of 10.1 but not all of them.

I'm thought NV didn't want to move to 10.1, they wanted to go upto DirectX 11 directly. Since MS mentioned 11 will still support existing 10 and 10.1 hardware, I don't think any of this makes drastic differences.

Yes what you say is true about Nvidia. The changes in DX 10.1 are too insignificant and is more of a business issue then anything else. Their next step is indeed DX 11.

The article I posted talks about the difference between DX 10 and DX 10.1, and how there is no real advantages to DX 10.1. The only difference being DX 10.1 forces things like floating point filtering and anti-aliasing sampling to be on at all times where it's optional on DX 10. Which basically is not a good thing for people with lower end systems. The only advantage I see is that it will force game developers to make games according to the higher standard which will of course produce more quality games.
