    Hello,

    Does anybody know the difference between the x600 and the 9600? From what I understood when I looked at it, the x600 is better than the 9600.
    So, does Asus offer any notebook with x600 graphics? I saw an Acer notebook with the x600, and none from Asus, so, what is the reason for that?

    9600 - AGP
    X600 - PCI-E

    The X600 obviously has higher specs and newer technologies. So it's the clear winner between the two.

    ASUS offers the X600 in the V6V and W3V at the moment. You probably didn't do your homework well enough. [ ;)]

    The x300 is equal to the mobility 9600 while the x600 is equal to or slightly better than a mobility 9700. If you search the forums you can find more info as this topic has been dicussed before.

    Thanks...

    What is the difference between Acer and Asus? I mean, in general? Why does the first price notebook with an x600 is at around 1200€ for Acer and 1500€ for Asus?
    Don't misunderstand me, I have an Asus computer, and I am happy with it, but I want to understand why Asus seems to lag behind Acer on that point.

    I guess the Asus one at 1500 is better than the Acer one at 1200, but why doesn't Asus offer an equivalent notebook for around the same price? It would seem much more marketing-wise to me.

    I don't have the numbers, but based on my experience, the comments above are correct.... the x600 is marginally better than the 9700... but enough to notice, for sure.

    IMHO,

    ACER = more performance and cheap price. RMA rate is high, and non spec'ed material is cheap.
    ASUS = balanced performance BUT TOP NOTCH QUALITY

    It is impossible for ASUS to keep their quality, and practice ACER prices. And, I think they don't want to become cheap-but-unreliable (that would be what happens if ASUS lowers the quality to keep low price), and loose their modjo.

    right... well put.

    At the same time, do you know how many people consider RMA rate? Americans are are after the lowest price they can get and then consider what they can get...... Dell always wins.. unfortunately.

    I had a look at my friend new Dell 510 which I was thinking about buying for about $700 less than my new V6V, but YUCK! Very plastic and bulky and “silver”, the Asus is worth the extra money if you want a really nice machine with great materials and design. [ :D]

    Like I read on another thread, it’s like buying cars. If you want a cheep car there are plenty out there, if you want a prestige or luxury car get Audi/Merc/BMW whatever; after all they all do the same job, but want do you want? A to B or style? Personally I like pulling out my V6 to sit with all the Dells and Acers at uni. [^]

    I dunno... The one major gripe I have with Asus is that their parts tend to be a bit lower in terms of performance. I mean, the W1N is still selling at around $1900 range in the States, and it is ancient in computer timeframe already. I admit that I really love Asus's exterior design -- Apple obviously had a positive influence on them, but the components are not really cutting-edge unfortunately.

    Ppl buy Dell for 3 reasons, sometimes in combination: 1) Obviously price -- 35% discount coupon is a pretty powerful incentive. 2) specs -- their laptops boasts some of the fastest components, very attractive to someone who needs that, and 3) servicability -- Corporates buy Dell in bulk because they are one of a very few computer OEMs who has the capacity to off-site manage tens of thousands of computers.

    If Asus would offer something equivalent to an I9300 in the W1N form factor,or even slightly bulkier... wow I'd be all over that... lol I would say that Dells are like Hondas, and Asus are quarky machines like a Mini-cooper. If only they can manage to stick in the Go6800 or x800 in...

    cheers,

    yass

    OK, but I must say that I'm very happy with the V6, and it has the same spec's or better than others have.

    When it came down to it, it was style, feel and general quality that won me over. I wanted a great laptop that would last me to the end of Uni, about two year min. I figured you get what you pay for, thats why I settled for Asus

    Yea Asus's build quality has been consistently high. On par with IBMs and Apples (well Asus is their ODM anyway... lol). I'd say that pretty much ANYTHING you get on the market will last you 2yrs. Before I got my Inspiron 9300 a month ago, I was still using a Dell Latitude CP from 1997 -- with a Pentium 1 233mhz cpu, 64MB of ram, and the original battery. So I was quite happy. heh I've heard some bad tales regarding the longivity of the Inspirons, I guess I'll find out -- either way I don't see 2yrs being an issue, as my 2yr on-site warranty sufficiently covered that already. lol

    I was quite taken with the W1N design when it was first released over a year ago, but I dunno Asus plays cautiously -- probably so they don't jeperdize their working relationship with all those *HUGE* OEMs that buys from them.

    cheers,

    yass

    They're all basically the 'same' chip. At the same clock they should be indistinguishable from one another.

    The differences are:

    1. Rated clock speed (actual clock may differ).
    2. Production technology.
    3. Bus interface.

    RV350, 130nm, AGP -> M10 -> Radeon 9600 -> Mobility 9600
    RV360, 130nm, low K, AGP -> M11 -> Radeon 9600 XT -> Mobility 9700
    RV370, 110nm, PCIe -> M2? -> Radeon X300 -> Mobility X300
    RV380, 130nm, low K, PCIe -> M24 -> Radeon X600 -> Mobility X600
