Just wondering will the new asus penryn laptops be able to handle 800mhz ram sticks. If not, what laptops are able to handle this ram? I know most newer laptops are compatible with 800mhz but which ones can utilize it if any. I have found no laptop that utilizes 800mhz ram. which brings up the question, why is 800mhz notebook ram even made?

Because 800mhz is the next step up, and Montevina will support 800mhz. Montevina is the next Centrino platform supporting the new 1066 Penryn processors. Whether it's DDR2 or DDR3 it's not entirely confirmed yet.

i would think that Montevina would use ddr3, making 800mhz dd2 pointless. I did read somewhere that some notebooks have a bios update that lets you utilize 800mhz ddr2. Can any1 confirm this, and which laptops are they?

I doubt that...Its a hardware issue(chipset). DDR2 800mhz ram can be used in laptops with some AMD chipsets(i think) or laptops with a desktop Intel 965 chipsets like the Clevo d901c

Besides, you probably wont notice the difference between 800mhz ram and 667mhz ram...
