I have a Dell 25" flatscreen with vga dmi and hdmi inputs.

I am using a vga to vga cable connected to a vga to dvi adapter that is plugged into the dvi input of the monitor.

The other end of the vga cable is then connected to the 1000he.

In display properties I am trying to attach the 1000he to the second monitor and it doesn't recognize the monitor.

When connecting the 1000he to the vga input to the monitor it operates perfectly.

Any suggestions why the 1000he isn't recognizing the monitor in dvi mode would be appreciated.

    Many thanks...

It might be due to a faulty VGA-DVI connector.

But you have to understand that there is no difference in the visual quality if you connect a VGA output to a DVI input. Because VGA is analog standard while DVI is digital. It is possible to use a VGA to DVI converter to transmit your analog transmission through the DVI to the monitor. Even though you used the monitor's DVI to connect, laptop's output is in analog VGA. So you wont see any difference that using a VGA to VGA cable.

So I would suggest you use VGA to VGA connection and be satisfied that its the maximum you can do.

    That is great info, thanks.

I will suspect the vga/dvi connector, it's been around for a while and can't remember where it came from.

Question: So if I purchase a vga to hdmi cable, am I too understand the monitor will work in analog mode.

I am connecting two computers to the monitor so then I can switch the monitor between the two without changing over cables.

    Many thanks...

Before I go too far I need to know if this set up will work. I purchased a vga to hdmi cable and would like to connect my laptop to my monitor. I have a tower connected to the monitor using a vga to vga and I would like to use this second cable for my laptop.

The problem I'm having is the laptop doesn't see the monitor under display properties. Each time I try to attach and apply the second display icon it returns to the greyed out look. Looking in the advanced setting mode it only shows the laptop display and under Multiple Display it mentions that a second displays has to be connected to use this feature.

I have another laptop that does the same thing so I'm not sure if my procedure is correct or it's the cable or the monitor.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks...
