    Check here:
    ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/NOTEBOOK/M6x00NE/

There's an 0207 BIOS listed... I haven't tried it yet, but may give it a shot soon.
    Please post your experiences.

I flashed it and now my temperatures stay at around 55 degrees. For all of you M6 users out there who have temperature issues, 0207A is the one to use.

    yesssssssssss it's cooooooool

thanks for the tip mate !!!!
now 47 idle and 72 max (prime 95 torture test)
it seems my fan is now always active @ 3000rpm

someone said in a previous post that the temp reading wasn't accurate and it wasn't a temperature related problem.
well, now I think it really was a temp problem resulting from an insufficient cooling.

the now 207 bios rocks, go for it !!!!

now the fan is always on, running @ 3000rpm, and I can live with it.
regarding the "noise" it's barely audible, you have to run pcprobe or put your hand on the air exhaust to make sure the fan is on.
now my cpu temp is 45°. It was 68°c with bios 206.
    I love this bios

interesting. My m3np has a two stage fan... one that is almost inaudible and the other that is loud as anything! the fan will go into the low speed when the CPU hits 72 degrees celcius and i've never had high temps than 73 for it to kick into high speed. the reason i know it has a highspeed is because it will kick into highspeed when i first start the computer or if my cpu usuage pinned at 100% for more than a few seconds... it's wierd though, because the temperature won't increase (when i run games and prime95, i have it pinned at 100% and that's how i get the high temp, but the fan doesn't kick into high speed, wierd huh?) So i don't know what exactly makes it kick into full speed... i'm wondering if anyone else has this sort of wierd thing.

also, asus hasn't updated anything on this laptop in over 6 months! it's starting to get anoying, especially since intel released new 2200bg drivers and the ATK100 asus driver can't work with it. So the WLAN light doesn't come on anymore and i can't enable/disable my WLAN with the button anymore :(

anyway, that's enough of my rant.

ok...this bios is not so good after all.
the fan sometimes locks @ 3600 rpm
there 's no particular reason for this, nor heavy cpu load.
this full speed fan becomes noisy and quite disturbing.
more frightening, it makes us, M6 owners, share the endless "non stop fan issue" thread with the A2D owners
Auroras, if you have any ideas or comments, you are most welcome mon ami.

I have that problem as well. I've found a work-a-round.... I notice that if I switch the Power4Gear mode from Game to High Performance/Super Performance.. the fan will rev up. However, if I turn it back to Game mode...the fan will spin back down to 3000 RPM quietly.

See if that works for you, pixie

Well I upgraded to the 107 bios a day ago, from the 106. To be honest I wish I had stayed on the 105 it was working well for me, fan would stay off most of the time in game mode and temp was stable at around 50C. Now with the 107 bios its running at 44 but the fan is on at 3000rpm it wont turn off. Also noted that there is now a 3600 rpm speed which I didn't get with the earlier bios, I've yet to see the 4000rpm fan, which I is a good thing, but would be nice for the fan to turn off. I guess I now have the dreaded "ASUS fan stuck on" problem which seems to be spreading from the A2D and infecting the M5 and now M6 notebooks.
Also obvious is that the bios changes are making a difference, thus ASUS has the ability to "fix" the issue with future updates..lets hope they do.
To others thinking of upgrading to 107....I wouldn't unless your unhappy with your system. I broke the simple first rule of if it aint broke don't fix it...
    bummer

Ok just did a quick fan experiment.
Although ASUS probe says 3000rpm, I can barely hear the fan, I had to put my ear right next to the fan outlet to make sure it was on. With the earlier bios's when the fan came on at 3000rpm I could definitely hear it at a guess I would say it was = to the 3600rpm speed in decibles, but thats just a guess. Also with 107 the 3600 fan comes on at ~60C while I was able to get the 4000rpm to come on at 80C.
So I'm not actually sure how much the bios has actually changed, I think in reality it has just changed the readings in ASUS probe.
    ie

    105 107
    0rpm = 3000rpm
    3000rpm = 36000rpm
    4000rpm = 4000rpm

but thats just a guess and my uneducated opinion.
    What do you guys think?

thx , will try power4gear as soon as my fan gets stuck again.
what is most interesting is the fact that a company like ASUS cannot get rid of such a simple fan problem. I have no coding knowledge, but programing a fan behaviour must be something fairly basic. very odd.
btw the "dreaded fan issue" spreading from the A2D to some other notebook is almost funny.

Are you sure? Leave it on "Super Performance" for a while... like for a minute.
Then switch it to "Game Mode".
That usually gets my fan back to silence...

Just emailed you the file !
Although the ftp site (ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/NOTEBOOK/M6x00NE/) is working fine for me, I just downloaded the bios from there. Sometimes it takes a few goes to get in so be patient but it does work!

    Just tried BIOS V2.07
To be honest I amnot very happy with the new fan behaviour and I wanted to downgrade to BIOS V2.06
Unfortunately Winflash V2.13 (and V2.11) tells me an older BIOS version was not accepted.

How can I bring Winflash to accept an older BIOS?
Or do I really have to put good old DOS-utility AFLASH2.exe out of the box?

    Any ideas? [ :)]

I would think you'd have to make a bootable CD rom and flash that way...
I am tempted to do the same. I loved the 0206 BIOS.. even though the fan still didn't turn on until 70 degrees, it's hell of a lot better than the fan on ALL THE TIME with this 0207 [ :(!]

I am getting REALLY tempted to use Aflash and a bootable CD to flash back to a previous BIOS... this fan behaviour is seriously annoying me like crazy! I miss my silent notebook... even if it had an idle temp of ~63 [ :(]

Now, it's just a matter of gathering the guts to do so... I baby my notebook so much

I've upgraded to the 0207 bios and have no problems here, but then again i don't have powergear installed either. Wondering if powergear is causing the problems with the fan?

WOW! I haveinstalled 207 and now my problems are ended with 90° failure...tanks a lot to everyone...the fan is almost on, but the noise is very low...I'm happy.
I have another question about RAM support. I have installed a 400 MHz RAM but the M6Ne show black screen at startup, and stop there.
I try with another module, but don't work.
    What do you think??

The M6Ne will only except 333 ram, 400 isn't supported thus the black screen, I suggest exchanging your ram for some slower speed stuff. I've got Geil golden dragon running in mine and it works like a gem

and at www.geared2play.com I think you can choose PC3200 RAM as an option

Thats weird, the specs from ASUS say only 333. When I was doing a bit of research to find a compatable RAM maker for my m6ne they also said only 333 ram. Be interesting for gear2play to clear that one up.
But considering xandros's wont start then I figure giving some 333 is worth a try !

    If your fan locks on 3600 RPM with 0207A bios.. I've found a way to rev it back down;
you must stress your CPU so that it will go to ~55 degrees... in this situation, your CPU will turn on 3600 RPM for real and then when your CPU stress comes back down, the fan will rev back down normally.

What a weird bug.. I hope they release an 0208 BIOS or at least a newer BIOS very soon.

DDR400 will work, but there isn't an asus centrino system that can use it yet. Considering it's usually only a couple dollars more, it's not a big deal, but a bios upgrade is still never going to make it accept ddr400... it's a limitation of the motherboard. The new 915 chipsets will allow it.

Since Centrino is really the anti-overclocker.... there is no need for faster RAM because there is no need to overclock it...

Thats is correct guys. We use ddr400 explicitly its only a 1$ more. There actually is a practical advantage to using ddr400 over 333. It does offer a slightly higher bandwidth even though it posts at only 333. At 1$ more its a not a big deal as justin said

Should have mentioned. These notebooks are much more picky with ddr400 and not so much with ddr333. As far as this bios issue. I still cant find a link to it on the north american site. Why is it that the american site does not list the bios that we need for this. ANyone else think this has a purpose or are their american site just not updated in time and not taken care of like overseas? LOok at the navigation on all the sites except american. It was changed over a week ago and still not here??

Ok i spend a bout 30 min with asus support reading over this forum and looking at the 0207 bios. First their american support didnt even know about 0207. After lookin git over they said "we cannot recomend this bios". My oppinion on what happen here:
The notebooks in germany m ay infact be the same however most likely come from different batches. I dont know what kind of difference it makes if any. I think the germans are too smart for their own good and looks like they are trying jump ahead of everyone else. Also there must be a reason why the link you posted to the german site is not part of their mirror ftp site which resonates all over the world as far as i see. Currently we are getting m6n's with 0206 bios and have been for a few weeks now. It works great. I have to say the fan runs almost silent and then notebooks stays cool. The fan is not always on it does turn off espcially on battery. I think anyone who installed the 0207 bios is going to have to wait until 0208 comes out of you can find a way to downgrade... In all posibility the bios on the german ftp may come out in the future to the rest of the mirror's then again it may never come out. I am waiting for a link from asus to their sponcored ftp site which all of you should use. Weird part is that i know you can download the 0207 is you use live update software. I say do not install 0207 i dont think it was aproved for the whole world, not yett atleast then again i dont know for sure my self so i leave it to you to decide.

Under pantman, you said that your computer was stable with 0205 BIOS version?????
Even when gaminG?????? WHy did u touch it??? I wold want for my M6726NELH a behaviour like yours!!! I have 0205 version and gaming i get 90ºC really fast. I still havent upgrade to 0206 or 0207 because i cant find an official link from ASUS to it, and this makes me suspicious...the last BIOS version in the web page is the 0205 taht is the min, and it doesnt work well.
One thing that i have checked its that my fun only turns on and off at 4000 rpm, and never at 3000. The CPU increase temps to 90ºC and then the fun turns on at 4000, and then stops, and in a few second it does it again and again (I´ve seen this with a latest version of ASUS PC-PROBE for ASUS M6NE series)

    "Curiosity kill the cat".
For some stupid reason I figured what the hell I'll give 206 a try. I wasn't real happy with 206 myself, so I I went to 207. I actually don't mind 207 it seems ok to me. My notebook is stable and cool, and pretty quiet, can't ask much more than that I guess.

As for temp's I get into the 70's post gaming with 205 and 207. It got to 80+ with 206. For some reason 206 seemed to make my notebook more like AuroraS. But 207 has made it a bit more normal for me.
I guess each bios behaves alittle different on each machine, maybe there are different batches???
    a
    :)

ps I still wouldn't advise using 207, I forgot to mention that since upgrading to it I have been getting the dreaded "acpiec errors". While this hasn't affected performance or stability yet it is still annoying and could lead to bigger issues. Or on another machine could be worse.

Ok. Im agree with " the curiosity...."
Yesterday i upgraded my BIOS to 0206 version, and nothing wost i did.
With the 0205 it reached the 90 and then the fun turned on 4000 rpm and put it near 80, and start again (while gaming, try to record the temps with the asus probe). This made a graphic on tmeps like the sea waves, ok?
Now the fun turns on before, about 80 at3000 rpm,and when it gets 90 it stay a few seconds till the fun goes to 4000 rpm, and the result is a line near 90´s all the time ( a little under) till the game stops, and my temp decrease to 60´s..
Nothing bhetter that what you had before....

Try gun metal (a game that came with the computer) in gaming mode for 15 min, and publish your results, ok? That way well have a objective probe to see the behaviour of our notebooks.

P.D. If now here we are in winter, and in our houses its 22 23 degrees, i dont want to think what will hapopen this summer when the weather is near 30, 35, or even 40....now im happy because i have two years warranty...

I should have read this topic before upgrading to the 0207ae bios. I really didn't like the fan issue and have reverted/downgraded back to the 0206Ae bios. Here's the procedure for those interested, try at your own risk!

    1. Download the Dos flash utility AFLASH2_Dos_050127.zip from here: http://usa.asus.com/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=M6N&Type=Latest

    2. Download the 0206ae bios from here: ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/NOTEBOOK/M6x00NE/

    3. Create a Clean Bootable CD-Rom (for BIOS upgrade) as per the instructions on here: http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/#clean
Remember to copy the flash and bios to the correct directory!

    4. Boot from CD and run the flash program

    5. Done.

    hope this helps. [ :)]

With 0205, the fan would stay off until my CPU reached 75 degrees... then the fan would come on at 3000 RPM (very quiet, almost unnoticable) until the CPU went back down to 70 degrees.

With 0206, the fan behaviour is the same, except the fan comes on at 70 degrees and turns off at 65 now. A 5 degree difference... but any difference is better.

COnsidering I never gamed... I can't say. Although I did stress my computer with SUPER_PI with the 0205 BIOS and the highest I've seen the temp was ~79 degrees I think. Then fan always stayed on 3000RPM and never became loud...
I've NEVER seen 4000 RPM with this notebook before.
