Hello, I'm testing new V2S running Vista Business and I have 2 issues. One, webcam is slow, a lot of ghosting and delays. Fan is constantly on...I think Vista is killing this laptop. Is anyone having the same problems?

    Regards,
    Robson13

I bought the V2S-B1 last night... very excited, it's my first laptop! I'm not a gamer, I'm a commerce student who uses photo-editing software frequently. I might purchase an extra battery from excaliberpc to supplement the poor battery performance.

I'll let you guys know how the unit works when I get it!

I see no real ghosting or delays on my v2sb1's camera. I do not use it that much. My fan is either off or very quiet most of the time.

Hmm i just got mine and yes the fan is constantly on.
The screen is another bad thing for me the contrast ratio seems low to me that the black is pretty bad. I compare it to my sis asus F3 screen and the F3 got a better screen than the V2s but then again the F3 got a bigger screen and a beter resolution (WSXGA+) so maybe its not a fair comparison for it.

Aside from the bad stuff above i have to say that the build quality is very good and its quite stylish.
Plus it comes with a Bluetooth mouse and a targus bag for free :)

Hmm.. i think i might be getting a light leakage. Is it normal for the bottom half to look brighter than the top half when you are displaying mostly black just like the default windows screensaver??

I got mine a few days ago, and I love it. This is my first laptop with dedicated graphics, and it's a joy. The webcam does show a bit of delay, but it's not excessive. My fan is off most of the time, very quiet...

To All V2S owners, if you would like to downgrade to Windows XP, you can refer to the guide here:

    http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20071008002828390&board_id=3&model=V2S&page=1&SLanguage=en-us

    Drivers are all here:
    http://chaoshardware.de/xp

I have completed my XP installation on Sunday and so far everything is running fine, not to mention it is more faster then Vista. I have to admit it is not the smoothest process but at the end it works fine, one thing to note is when installing the drivers, please make sure you follow this order:

    http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20070926211002015&board_id=3&model=A1B&page=1&SLanguage=en-us

otherwise, you might have problem getting the audio working.

Depending if I have time or not, I might actually install Vista back again to make it dual boot. But so far, the downgrade was worth it for me...

Did you clean the fan and heatsink fins, since you got the notebook? If not, then I think it's high time to do it. Dust buildup in the cooling system makes the computer overheat, which makes the fan(s) work more, which in turn creates noise.

There is a generic ASUS cleaning guide in the Info Booth, written by Coriolis. It's not as easy to get to the fan in all ASUS notebooks, but you could try following that guide first.

The fan could also be accessible from under the keyboard.

In the worst case, you can just blow the dust with compressed air instead of cleaning from the inside, but that's not as effective.
