You gotta remember that euro. release dates are usually much earlier than north american release dates unless you are in europe if so disregard what I just said. So far from what I read, V1S is coming to north america mid - late august.

I agree, It was originally supposed to be a late July release but after speaking to a few resellers it looks like Mid August is the most likely one. Dosent stop you from pre-ordering at ExcaliburPC though.

I'm not sure that it will be available in stores in uk on 02/08/2007. I think this is the date that asus is shipping to stores. As I originally ordered an unavailable V1JP I have been waiting 3 weeks for my new machine so the guy at the store has kindly organized for asus to ship directly to me.

This was looking to be the machine for me as it has everything the G1S has but a better build and look. I just can't afford to push back my buy date to mid-August so back to the drawing board for me. Hope you get yours real soon so we can see some pics and benchmarks.

I checked on the website but it doesn't appear yet. They even removed the V1jp.

Do you know guys any other places in Europe where it's confirmed they might have the V1s?

It's unlikely they will list it until they have stock. I'm gonna give them a call a see when they expect to have it in stock.

I've just phone laptopshop.co.uk and they were unable to give me any information at all even though they will be shipping one to me. The guy did say that it was not listed on it's distributors lists so I guess there is little he could give (at least he didn't just lie like some might do).

I also called asuslaptop.co.uk and the man I spoke to claims the V1S has been launched but stocks have not been shipped to the UK yet. When asked the guy said he expected them in within 2 weeks.

He also said that they have had numerous enquiries about the V1S and as soon as it is shipped to them they will obviously be listing it on their site immediately. That said they still have the V1JP listed and the reason i'm getting a V1S is because the V1JP has been discontinued, unavailable and replaced by the V1S. I also know from a previous phone call to asuslaptop.co.uk that they never actually stocked the V1JP but instead got one from a distributor when they received an order so I expect it's still listed on their site but they probably couldn't get one if they tried.

Isn't it a shame that all these retailers are unable to supply up to date information on the products customers want even though there must be information available to them. I guess that they are more concerned with not getting lumbered with old stock or could it be that they just can't be bothered if there's not a buck in it.

I guess the point is that stock of the V1S are due in the UK very, very soon. I wouldn't read to much into what the retailers say, they are more concerned with getting shot of there current stock or pretty much speculating was is just as un-helpfull.

My V1S will be shipped direct to from the UK distributor as soon as stock of the machine is available. As soon as I get it I will post here at the V1S Owners Lounge.

I can only post the information I have received. As shown in my signature the info I have is nVidia Geforce 8600M GT 512 on board.

Now I can't say for sure if this is correct or not all I can say is that I cut and pasted this without any editting from the email I received from the store supplying my machine.

It is possible they may have it wrong, there does seem to be a distinct lack of information available to and from the retailers so I guess i'll just have to wait until I get it.

After doing some googling for the model I am to receive (V1S-AK013E) it does appear the machine will come with nvidia 8600GT 256mb.

told ya ;) Wouldnt be to surprised if its 160gb, not 200gb, But you never know. Hope you get your machine soon.

Yeah I just picked up on that to, The t7500 is 2.2ghz, Id be a bit concerned about your resellers reliability XD. On a side note, US dealers were originally told August 1-2nd, Then it got moved to mid August, I wonder if its the same with yours and your reseller just hasnt been told yet.

I really don't understand how a retailer can be offering pre-orders or have units on order from the manufacturer, and not have any idea when they'll be in stock and ready to sell. I'm leaving for school on Aug 15 and need a new laptop before then. The shipping date is the make or break on my purchase. I really want a V1S, but if I can't get it in time for classes, there is no point. I was torn between the value and performance of a G1s and the style and durability of an IBM/Lenovo. The V1s was the (seemingly) perfect compromise and I was sold.

I'm sure I'm not the only one in a situation like this. Asus, you may be losing some sales if we don't get some dates soon.

I understand you want it for class but is it really going to kill you to get it in the second week of uni? In Aus our classes started last monday, I wont get my V1S until the 21st at the earliest (International shipping is a *****)

I contacted the store as soon as I originally got the machine and confirmed that it is 2.2ghz but decided to leave the specs in my signature exactly as I got them until I receive the machine.

Thats a bit misleading to anyone who sees your sig and decides to buy it based on thos specs.
    According to nexus you get
    5.4" TFT (WSXGA+, Colour Shine) - Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2G - Video Camera Built-in(1.3 million pixels) - 2048MB(1024x2) DDRII 667 SDRAM - 200GB HDD(5400rpm)+TPM Security - DVD Super Multi D/L - Gigabit LAN - Intel 3945ABGN WLAN - Bluetooth Built In - Vista Business-NVidia GeForce 8600M DDR3 256MB

So you get half the Vram, But it looks like it will be DDR3, On a side not it specifies 8600M which could just as easily be the GS version. You also get the Intel 3965ABG card. Best of luck to you.

sorry dont mean to hi jack the thread, but...
Which cost more, the G1S or the V1S?
Does the V1S come with a bag and mouse too?
What are the differences between G1S and V1S? (other than material/build quality, and the light)

    the V1s will cost more.
The V1s do come with a bag and mouse but not the gaming mouse found with the G1. You get better build quality from the V1 though.

There aren't many differences between the G1s and V1s from what I can tell besides the video card. And the things you said you already knew

Im pretty sure the RRP for the G1s and A1s is 1899, But the G1s has been out longer so some retailers have reduced it further.

    A couple of questions...

    1. Does "colourshine" (screen) mean its a glossy screen?
    2. What is a u-DVI? Is that an HDMI, or some custom socket you have to buy an adaptor for?

    Thanks!

    1. Yes, and I think it also means it supports ASUS' Splendid Video technology.

    2. µ-DVI is a smaller plug, which you can use in conjunction with a µ-DVI-to-DVI cord to give yourself a DVI port. It's mainly used to save space, which is why you see it on smaller laptops like the Macbook.

the v1s doesent have u-DVI, excalibur pc was going off of the old specs for the v1jp, it has hdmi which im fairly sure can be turned into dvi with a cheap adaptor.

I believe I posted this somewhere but I can't find it. Will the V1s have touch pad buttons? or will it be like the vx2 that seems to me has one big touchpad that has been sectioned off into buttons.

Splendid video to me looks like a piece of software to manage profiles of different color settings. It's not really a hardware feature of the LCD specifically. More like presets so you dont have to change the video card settings. I removed it.

My now gone R2H UMPC had it.

I'm not completely sure what you mean, but here are some links to pictures that may help:

(Also, I found something slightly amusing. If you go to the official ASUS picture s (first link above) and go to the 'Right' picture, they've mislabelled the USB and Mic ports :O)

In Germany the V1s and the V2s are supposed to have a matte screen. And the V1s is also cheaper then the G1s (1400€ vs. 1500€ ;). The only drawback with the V1s that you only get Vista Business instead of Ultimate. But since college students in Germany usually can get the newest version auf Windows free it's not a big deal for me.

haha yea I noticed that too. I meant that if you look at pictures of the VX2 it looks like the touchpad and buttons are one unit. As in there is no real button that you press down on and it *clicks*. but a touchpad area that is simulating a button. It looks like the V1s to me has buttons and the vx2 doesnt.

Removing these kind of applications is often a good idea - otherwise you have many programs able to alter the same settings.... I managed to get my Vaio stuck on silent for ages because some program had saved that as the setting!

Hmm, I notice that the V1S specs listed here: http://www.nexus13.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=188&idproduct=1155
are with 256MB of GDDR3. If the 512MB being listed everywhere does turn out to be DDR2, I wonder if the GDDR3 version will be available in the states. I'd prefer that, because from what I hear, it's only under unusual circumstances that the 8600GT uses more than 256MB of vram.

Can the V1S boot into playing Media (MP3, Movie, etc) without Booting into the OS like the G1S?

Sorry to ask this - I'm sure it's been asked a million times - but what is the ETA on the V1S? Any exact date? I really prefer the look of the V1S to that of the G1S, but the G1S does have everything I would otherwise want in a laptop. I would like the computer by August 18th (when I head out for college), but if it would only be shortly after I could have it shipped out there. Is it worth waiting?

Also, I assume there hasn't been any confirmation on if the V1S has an 8600GT with DDR3 or DDR2, right?

the type of VRAM used may be different. The V1s might use the slower, less overclockable GDDR2 ram.

There's probably zero chance that you can get a V1s before the 18th. I go back to school on the 22nd, and I've just resigned myself to not having a laptop for the first month or so.

EDIT: Anyone know the battery life for the V1s?
