The mouse is wired. You don't want a wireless gaming mouse. And the CPU is 64bit but unless you have 4GB+ of RAM you dont want a 64bit OS.

I am planing on buying the ASUS G1S-A1 from Newegg.com( i want the manufacture warrenty, i could always replace the ram by myself at a later date)

Anyway, i was wondering a couple of things.

Is the mouse any good that comes with the G1S?

How's the bag and the case?

Could anyone recomend me a cooler that isn't too expensive and would fit the G1S and it's bag?

My friend has this rubber-like cover over his keys on his Macbook, is it really that helpful? or is that overkill( do they even have one, or somehting similar for the G1S)?

If anyone could reccomend a good set of speakers, they don't have to be super portable, but if i want to take them somewhere they wouldn't kill me.
    A subwoofer would be ideal.

    Thanks for all your help!

Just got my G1s and going through cleaning up bloatware, start programs, etc. Checked the Window Experience Index and the processor is at 4.4 (graphics card at 5.9, etc.). Was wondering if anyone had this rating and why it seems low (or maybe it's normal). Thanks

4.4 is way too low for a T7500 processor. Check your power management settings to ensure you have your CPU set to run at 100% and that the system thinks it is on AC, not battery power.

My Sony BX640 with a T7200 gets 4.9 for the CPU. Of course it also gets 3.8 and 4.5 for the GPU (ATI x1600) which is why I'm contemplating switching to a G1S.

I have installed a 7,200 RPM 100G disk in my system and Vista gives it a 5.1 rating, so I guess that does help.

I checked and am currently in High Performance mode on Power4Gear with processor set for maximum performance at 100%. This is really baffling now. Should I call Asus or ExcaliberPC?

I have been using the G1 since February that I purchased from Newegg and all the items that you ask about are unchanged in the G1S upgrade. The mouse is a very good mouse, although the Logitech software that allows you to use the extra gaming buttons is not supported in Vista at this time. Just like most software, I'm sure a patch is in the works that will correct this. I've chosen to use the Logitech V270 Bluetooth mouse and it works great, although it is not a gaming mouse (with those extra buttons). The Bag is startlingly good. It is a Targus bag that is on par with the $80 Targus bag that I had purchased for my previous laptop. I'm sure you could purchase a keyboard cover like your friends, but I prefer not to use them because they interfere with my typing and end up generally looking far worse that the keys would if they were left uncovered. I've used this laptop in the desert here in Ramadi Iraq and I can definitely tell you that any money spent on a laptop cooler would be a waste. There are absolutely NO heat problems with this model. Personally, I use Klipsch Promedia Ultra 2.0's. In my opinion they are the most portable speakers with the best sound for about $100.00. If you don't carry the speakers with you, then Klipsch makes a Promedia 2.0 system with a subwoofer that will knock your socks off.

Awesome, thanks. Does it get hot period? like if i kept it on my lap would it be an annoyance?

I'm worried about vista, i know that the compliants usually lie in the hands of the consumer, but i'm not a computer wiz and might find all the missing drivers and things a problem. I also live off my ipod and hear that itunes is buggy at best with Vista, not to mention i hear it conflicts with some games.

Coming from an XP computer that I haven't played games on in forever, I'm curious, does vista and directx10 have any conflicts playing older games? Im a sucker for classics like Red Alert 2 and so on.

    edit:

Also what the word on the HDMI output and the other things the reviewer was missing? Is everyone missing them?

HDMI and eSATA are both on the G1s, the images of the side and back of the G1 were the G1p, the reviewer did not take side and back pictures, so G1p images were used instead. I would expect another G1s review coming out soon.

Tarheel, when you get your laptop can you post your Windows Vista Experience score? The previous G1S reviewer's score of 4.8 only had 2 GB of memory but you have 3 so I am curious how much of a boost of performance you'll be getting.

Also, a note to all: be very weary about whether you're getting the 64-bit or 32-bit version of Vista. They are not the same; do some research on the issue using Google. You will get more compatibility issues when using the 64-bit version; you will need new drivers that support the 64-bit version.

Wow the g1s is turning out to be better than I thought. Too bad I couldn't wait one more week or I might have been able to order the g1s. So far the only major bonus of having the g1 is its cheaper and runs winxp.

How is the build quality of this machine? I currently have a T61 on order, but with the chaos revolving around Lenovo right now I'm considering the G1S. I'm not very familiar with their products. I will mostly use the computer for school work, internet, and some gaming. The reason I'm considering the G1S is because I know it will support future games and programs better than the T61. To me, the extra $300 would be worth it if necessary. Anyone have feedback?

    what is the diferrence between 8600M GT 256MB and 8600M GT 512MB? I see asus g1s has 8600M GT 256 on excaliburpc.com , but on xoticpc it has 2 options,... 8600MGT 256MB and 8600M GT 512MB option?

By the way, do you know any Asus Official Partner in Slovenia, where I can use Asus's Global Warranty?

Right now they're having problems with their shipping dates. I ordered mine last week and it won't ship until 6/6. But a lot of people are getting to their shipping dates, then getting an email saying it won't ship for another 2-4 weeks. I don't have time to deal with that so I want to get a G1S if better.

No, so far the G1S won't POST with 2GB of RAM. If a 1GB and 2GB stick are installed, the system will only recognize the 1GB. Asus supports says they will be releasing a BIOS patch to alievate this problem.

By "security slot" I think the poster means a Kensington lock hole. If that is the question, then yes, the G1S has a Kensington lock hole.
