Mine seems kinda jinxed.. The person supposed to come has been advised against air travel for two months. And she already ordered it.... Sucks big time...

    Where's your review, Gautam?

This looks like a really nice laptop, but I would prefer the Compal IFL90/Sager NP2090 because it looks better (imo, matte black is awesome), is customizable, has a more powerful GPU, and is similarly priced, if not cheaper. I would have this over the S96s though; the fact that they aren't renewing the WSXGA screen Z96 really kills me.

So which models did you guys get, and why?

The ATI X2500 in the F3Se-X1 isn't a DX10 card, right? I wonder, is it just the old X1600/1700? And why are they still using a DX9 card in there?

I get around 2 and a half hours with wifi on in battery saving mode, and anywhere from an hour to around two hours depending on what I'm doing in high performance mode.

i would also like my backup battery to be a 12-cell if possible, so if any of you have purchased a spare battery could you help me out as to what im looking for? will any battery do? im just totally lost here

I like its look. Didn't think much about it from the photos I've seen but its quite impressive in real.

The design is simple but elegant. And it feels Rock Solid. Was slightly worried about its build quality - being a low end ASUS model.

what are the tests one should do with their laptop other than 3DMark?

Look at the thread I linked to. It has some good real-world benchmarks to run, to let you know how well your computer will game in next-gen games.

Thank you :) will definitely try them.

Actually was thinking of purchasing a game. The net speed here is such that its cheaper buying one than downloading

will test one by one. And FEAR seems popular. Can hire it from someone.

F.E.A.R. runs on high settings at a good framerate, but can hardly run the dx10 version of Lost Planet. 2 gigs of ram is also a MUST have for this laptop, without it F.E.A.R. was very choppy, and didn't play very well at all. The ram made a huge difference.

Picked mine up and love it to death....

    Specs:

    Windows Vista Ultimate
    Intel C2D T7500 (2.20GHz)
    Nvidia 8600M GS 256MB plus sharing 756MB
    Kingston DDR2 800 PC2 6400 2 x 1GB
    240GB HD "Brand Unknown"

Laptop runs everything on Ultra High if not High and pushes 3Ds Max 9.0 and AutoCAD perfectly fine :) light weight and sweet specs... will have a full review posted at http://www.icrontic.com in a few weeks... takes time to do power testing and road traveling.

Mine idles at about 70C OCed to 650/550. Running source, It heats up to 95C, how about anyone else? Without the OC, it gets up to 89C in Source.

Also, I Have my card OCed to 650mhz core, but the Rivatuner graph shows 700mhz. Anyone know anything about this?

The CPU is cool though, runs about 50C idle, about 70 while gaming.

Is it unuseable on the lap because of this?

Well i wouldn't play really play games with a laptop on my lap for an extended amount of time, just because of how uncomfortable the positioning is for me. I did play oblivion for a few hours, and it was fine (had AC on though).

its definitely silent.. was pleasantly surprised

but i am not sure if it can be called cool.. was playing far cry and in 90 minutes it got quite warm. not unusable just a bit uncomfortable. is it because I was using AC instead of battery?

I hope whats warm for me isn't warm enough for you.

Its not that bad. The thing is - I don't usually notice things while playing but the heat was a bit noticeable.

But then, this is my first laptop and probably this isn't warm enough. And as Gautam said, it might be 'cool' for a laptop. Even cellphones heat up. Guess its normal.

Based on the highly positive review of the F3sv , I believe this machine fits my needs well. Battery life bothers me, I guess we all want the "perfect" machine, at least for 6 months anyway. Any idea if at some point in time Asus will have a 8 or 9 cell to fit this machine or is that just wishful thinking ?

it's quite easy. look in your manual. there are a few screws you have to remove and a plastic panel comes off. Then you just put in the ram.
