Battery: Make sure that you are using a power-saving profile for your CPU and, if possible, GPU, while you're on battery. Check Power4Gear for the CPU, the driver properties for the GPU.

For the hotkey for browser: I think it should suffice that you make Mozilla your default browser. At least in WinXP on both my ASUS laptops, it is enough. Otherwise, have a look at the info booth, under the ASUS Notebook Keys thread.

What are you doing with the computer when it lasts 2 hours? How many cells in the battery?

You should be aware that 2:30 is roughly what you can expect of a current ASUS notebook, on *light tasks*. So under 2 is not so surprising.

Still, you might be able to move past the 2hr mark on idle use, depending on what's causing the power draw.

Have you uninstalled the bloatware? What OS are you using? And how many cells in your battery? What is your max battery capacity (mobilemeter) and the average discharge rate (mobilemeter)?

Then I don't see what else you could do. If you are only using the software that you need, and that software is eating your batt in 2 hours, then you only have 2 hours of batt...

    That's life with an ASUS...

Ok here is my problem, when I first got my laptop the sound system was fine, I could listen to music, play my games and the speakers were good enough for me but then I got a free set of head phones and things started to go wrong...
First whenever the head phones were pluged in, the laptop speakers did not go off, so you could hear sound from the speakers and head phones at the same time !!!
And now you can't get any sound from the head phones at all ?!?! The speakers work fine, I have tried the phones in my other computer and other laptop and they work fine, so I know is not the head phones, also I have tried other phones in the F3KA and they don't work either, so does any body have an answer for this problem?? all the driver updates are there and still nothing helps, is it hardware related?? is it time to send it back to ASUS for repair?? I even reinstalled the recovery disc and nothing, help. :(

Go in to the bios and turn on the start up sound.
Its a glitch that Asus never fixed, but that takes care of your headphone jack issue.

Hi there f3ka owners. I am thinking about purchasing either an f3ka-a1 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...mc=OTC-Froogle-_-Notebooks-_-ASUS-_-34220202R) or an
    f3ka-x1( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220305)

They are pretty much the same, with the x1 model being slight better with 3 gigs of ram and a 250 gig hardrive. I wanted to know if anyone could post some screenshots of cod4, or describe how well this game can run, and at what settings in online multiplayer mode. I am seriously considering getting a
f3ka. Also if i decide to get the f3ka-a1 will 2 gigs of ram be enough for windows vista? How much will it effect games? Thanks so much.

I'm not an owner; Vista itself will run fine in 2 GB, with games it might be a little tight though.

I'm starting to seriously consider the F3KA-X4 (currently $870 at NewEgg). It has the TL-60 processor and Radeon 2600 video.

Can anyone comment about the performance of this notebook with World of Warcraft? That is the ONLY game I'm interested in playing. I raid in WoW, so the notebook needs to be able to generate fairly high framerates (20/25+) with 25 people on screen. I know the video card can handle it but I'm worried about the processor. From what benchmarks I've seen, the TL-60 is equivalent to something like the desktop X2 3600+ or so which is fairly weak.

I am also trying to decide if I should get the F3KA-X4 w/ 3yrs waranty or the M51sn-b1 w/ 2yrs warranty both of which will receive a 9 cell battery after purchase. I have heard that the F3KA is great on the newegg reviews, but not on the ASUS forums. Thanks guys!

I was just reading the f3ka forums on asus website and ppl there are saying that you can disable dedicated graphics card and enable integrated x1250/70 (in the bios) can anyone confirm this and/or try a battery run down with the integrated? Thanks!

Yes it is possible thru the bios, all you get is about 20 minutes more give or take a couple of minutes. My is a F3ka with a TL 58 not TL60

I just installed XP in a dual boot config alongside Vista on my F3KA, does anyone know how to enable the hotkeys? If I can get it running smooth i might just blow vista away entirely.

Ok, so I have a rather weird problem and don't really know where to ask... I have a F3KA with modded drivers (mobility modder) for the HD2600. The problem is with the game Dwarf Fortress... it just won't start. It starts for just a milisecond, then I'm back at the desktop, with no error message or anything. I read all over the net, and there doesn't seem to be any info on this problem, so if anyone can offer some help, I'd be really graterful.

Maybe the gaming forum would be more appropriate for this question? Since this seems to be a problem specific to this game.

    Hi everyone!

    I have an F3Ka w/ Windows 2003 Enterprise SP2 equiped w/ Atheros 5008.
I recently upgraded from 2GB to 4GB, and since then i've had no wireless whatsoever. Device manager reports Atheros w/ a yellow exclamation mark and "it's not working properly". When i downgrade to 2GB it works perfectly. I upgraded Atheros drivers from v6 to v7 (drv v7.7.?.2??) and it works... w/ 2GB... w/ 4GB it's the same story... No wireless: yellow exclamation mark.
I tried boot.ini's /3G to change RAM configuration, but no luck... :(

    System Event reports the following:
«The description for Event ID ( 154 ) in Source ( AR5416 ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: ; Atheros AR5008 Wireless Network Adapter.»

Has anyone ever heard something like this? 4GB => no wireless?? It's ridiculous... also thought of puting this on the Wireless section; what do you think?

    Thanks

Does your OS support 64-bit? You could try to run a linux live cd (64-bit) to see if the wireless works. Also check out his thread at tomshardware.

The OS is Windows 2003 Enterprise SP2 32 bits, so it supports 64 GB of physical RAM. I'm guessing this is a driver limitation. I've reached a compromise sollution: multiple boot ini entries. One limits usable RAM to 3GB (and permits wireless functionality) and another one without the RAM cap and with the 3G switch to split RAM in 3/1GB and allow the server that "extra growth"... ;)

Good luck to you all and thanks for all the fish!

To put is as nicely as I can: ASUS STINKS! They have had my computer for 6 weeks for LCD repair under warranty. They have never contacted me with any information. I have called at least once a day for the past week asking for some sort of status report, been promised return calls and NEVER received one. Finally, last night, got an e-mail saying they had no information available on the repair status!!!! I assume they are waiting for the warranty to expire. Obviously this is standard practice at ASUS. Anybody know of a national(US) or international body to complain to? Judy

    http://www.asus.com/ProductGroup1.aspx?PG_ID=1quIC6RvvlvcvNbn

click Versatile Performance, F3 Series and then any of the F3 Series *but* F3Ka or F3Ke.

click downloads, pick windows and open the ATK subsection.

    Hi Flip-Mode,

About the ram upgrade u did on the F3ka, can u tell me if the ddr2-800 u installed is running at 800mhz? or has it downgraded to 667mhz?

Are the timings on the ram well configured (on a forum I was told 800mhz modules sometimes lack specific 667Mhz timings and default to slower timings)?

Also, did u notice a big impact on performance? games specifically?

Appreciate the feedback, I'm considering an upgrade myself (have only 2GB ram)

    Thanks

Can you please tell me how it works?

    Hey.

You dont need to set any keys. The utility lets you use them, that's all it does.

Press the Fn key plus the key you want to use (blue symbols)

check this tread to see some info on the utility and associated files and detailed explanation.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/222868-asus-atk-hotkey-downloads.html#post3033744

basically the utility you mentioned lets you use the key combinations, and the atkosd utility (one you also have to google for) signals the use of the key combination by presenting on osd icon.

BTW, for XP you have to get the xp version of the utilities, it exists, i use it.

    hope that helps
