I didn't try yet, but I have an idea.
Does it change anything if you have raid conf? Because express gate shouldn't work during raid configuration and maybe light just turn off.

I don't think that happens, but you can try. Vicious should be able to tell you, he runs in RAID0 if I remember correctly.

The light is always on even with raid. Its a direct connection to the motherboard to boot express gate. Its "always on" for that reason.

Maybe a bad hard drive? I had my Vista install fail on my new HTPC and it was due to the HDD.

But smart failures would probably populate at start so maybe its a bad cd... I dunno.

I did the recovery via the hdd but with all asus software and norton and office...
but i want clean vista ):

untill the part the ask me to insert the driver disk all fine, no errors. maybe i'll try to recover and when i get to the part that asking me to insert driver disk i will restart manualy. it can work? after this vista will start? or the driver disk as something to do with correct recovery?

    i'm so dissapointed...

I think it's something related with your own laptop. I don't know if they can provide you a new copy of your recovery cd.

They should be able to provide you with a new copy of the recovery media, if what you have is not working properly.

Also, it's possible that you can get a clean install by simply not inserting the drivers disk, but forcing a reboot instead (although with recent computers there have been reports of this trick not working, and actually making the recovery fail).

Ehi.... New problem!!! I think it's just software one, at list I hope :p

On direct console, when I put CPU on performance and on extreme performance, after a few seconds CPU goes back to normal speed.

Any idea or suggestion? except formatting obviously...

    Yes, already checked!

Already uninstalled direct console and reinstalled.
Just updated power4gear with the new one found in asus website. Maybe that one is the problem. I don't know

This "Extreme performance" is not overclocking right? If right, then I believe the CPU is just speedstepping. So the "Extreme performance" is raising the cap up to which the CPU speed can go -- but on idle the CPU will still run on lower speeds to save power and heat. The speed is however there when needed.

    This would be normal behavior.

Yup, following on what EBE said, try and open up a couple programs at the same time and monitor the speed of your CPU. It should jump to 2.8ghz and once you're back idling, your CPU should drop in speed.

No, it's different. Because direct console works on bus speed, and CPU IDLE works on multiplier.
Even when laptop is in extreme mode, FSB is at 1170MHz istead of 1066MHz and multiplier jump between 6x and 9.5x depending on cpu use.

    Other ideas?

On another thread, people reported that Power4Gear Extreme needs to be installed for DirectConsole to work. This may be the problem in your case.

Look in all the tabs. It may be called "SATA Mode" or "AHCI Mode" or something similar. It's SATA btw, not SATTA.

Be aware setting to RAID wipes all the data off the HDDs.

I would suggest that you first look at the first post in the G50 owner's lounge, there are some common problems listed there linking to threads that discuss solutions. Lagging is perhaps the most important one.

This will not address all your questions, but hopefully some of them.

When i pluged it to my sony bravia LCD it works fine
but when i plug it in to my samsung plasma in the living room it doesnt' work. like the t.v doesn't recognize the laptop...

    how can i fix it?
maybe because of the v.card driver?

    thanks!

You can try a new driver however the issue is probably due to the TV or its settings. Make sure you have it set to HDMI input.

Other than that maybe its a case of a rare issue with hardware ID's where a TV does no send its ID correctly and thus the HDMI does not come on. Something like that. My monitor is known to be one of the few that can suffer this issue though I never had any problems.

Yes, not the best for performance... but the best for compatibility and thats the issue you currently suffer.

I have seen after market drivers break blueray playback for instance, it was fixed by using the stock drivers, or self modding new drivers to include what was needed for bluray playback. The LTV2G drivers are general made by somebody and may not include specific features of your laptop that you need, thus why it is best to test with the stock drivers tailored to your system if you have problems to see if its a driver issue before you further pursue any other avenue.

so what raid does it come with default? And if I update raid will I lose all my data that's on the hardive? Is there a noteable difference between them? Or is it just a couple more fps? I'm mostly going to be playing fallout 3 and and ut3 on it and I'm not very computer savvy so would the quality suffer if I left it with the deafault raid?

If I remember correctly, the hard drives in the G50 are not set in RAID out of the box. You'll have to set it yourself in the BIOS. Doing so, will force your hard drive to be formatted, so make sure you back up all your data before messing with the RAID settings. RAID 1/0 does not help increase fps in gaming; it's purpose is to increase security or performance for your hard drives. Games are still pretty much GPU and to a certain extend, CPU dependent.

    @ mrzoom:
Did you try the newest drivers from laptopvideo2go? The drivers from the Asus website won't be the newest. Also try WHQL certified drivers - they're usually not the newest, but should be the most stable. If any of these drivers don't work, I would suspect a defective GPU. You'll need to contact Asus for a RMA if that's the case.

    Hey everyone,
just wanna say I love the review but Im havin some problems with installing games on my G50. I ran the raid config and recovered to get rid of all the bloatware and now it runs like a million bucks, thanks Vicious. Only problem is when I install a game and try and run it I get an error message that says, "Directx encountered an unrecoverable error". It did this with both COD4 and Battlefield 2142. Anyone have any suggestions? Theres also a text file that shows up in the Activision file thats makin me worry a bit.

    Funny thing about CRYSIS benchmark.
    Everything high excepted shadows and shaders at middle at 1024x768;
    Works great!!!!

Only on the final boss, even at 800x600 the game goes a little bit slow, at least as soon as you just run away from him (or it?! "_" )
    Enjoy!

Crysis final boss sucks, it made my quad core dual 4850 desktop slow down, also I died like 500x because I totally got swarmed and my save was right before I die.

Then there is the glitch where you cant kill him to make it that much better.

@ Warmouth. I would uninstall and update update every Dirext X protocol. You need DX10 and 9C

Sounds like DX is not installed or corrupted.

    ViciousXUSMC,
Is it possible to put in Asus G50V two Seagate 7200.4 500GB ( ST9500420ASG) with G-Force technology, and configure to RAID0?

    Sure why not :p

As long as they are standard 2.5" drive size.

I know the 500GB Western Digital fits in there.

    G50V-A1 owner.
Just for fun this morning I updated my windows score with CPU-Z opened.
I am using just Direct Console 2.
As you can notice multiplier is set on 10x.
Moreover, multiplier switch between 6x, 9.5x and 10x during the benchmark.
If you want to try just take a look to direct console because benchmarking with windows apparently set back direct console to normal, you have to switch it to extreme during benchmarking.
Take a look to CPU score. :D
    AMAZING LAPTOP :p

Edit: I don't know why but today Gaming Graphics drop from 5.6 to 5.5 ..... this is WEIRD "_"....

Edit2: It came back to 5.6 :p bye bye
