thanks for the results, very interesting, could I ask you how did you disable turbomemory? did you uninstall the drivers, or just disabled it tough the intel turbo memory console?
The reason I ask is I have not noticed any improvement in performance since I enabled it and I just ran 3Dmarks 06 and strangely my score has dropped from 3066 to 2760,(163.11 driver, no over clock) I wonder whether Turbo memory has got something to do with this? I have the hotfixes you mentioned installed.

Oh... why the 3mark 2006 score is so low?? only 2800 pts?
G1s score is 3600 pts... 800 pts of difference for only DDR2->DDR3 is so much...

I just disable it from the Turbo Memory console and reboot the system.
You mean the 3DMark06 score dropped because the Turbo Memory was enable?
For what I understand is that the Turbo Memory has no effects on 3D performance, I am not sure why but I'll do the test tomorrow since it's kind of late and I am ready to go to bed. :)

Yes it is, there is big difference between DDR2 and DDR3.

    It's GDDR3. Please don't mix this up.

TM really seems quite useless. Did you read the part about the TM console in this article? It says the enable/disable boxes should not be touched.

yes I have read that, but the only other way to disable TM I can think of is to uninstall the intel driver altogether. seems the only hope to get any use out of TM is vista SP1/intel driver update.

On that note I take it that you ran the tests with the system plugged into the wall. If you have the time and the desire would you give it a try running it off the battery (and see if there is a preformace difference, or negative impact of having it enabled in that situation as well)?

With the processor speed stepped to a slower setting, and some of the other components slowing down to conserve power maybe it will might provide something of worth.

The link posted by matti shows little (20 minutes) to no benefit to battery life, but it doesn't mention anything about preformace being tested while on battery power.

BTW: Ken, thanks for sharing your test results with us. :D

Ken: I was looking at the right side image of the V1s, and it seems to like using an expresscard would actually block both the card reader and the eSata port. What is your opinion? This is the controller card I plan on ordering.

Yes an ExpressCard 54 will block both of those ports. Your card only blocks the card reader.

Doh! Thats a severe turn off :( Really stupid design. Why didn't they put the expresscard slot on top? As a lot of expresscards actually build out and UP, I'd say that would be a much better solution.
Luckily, I'll mainly be transfering memory card stuff to an eSata, and not to the firewire disks.

By look at the picture of the expresscard, it sure will block the card reader and eSata port.

So you think a 34mm card will block the eSata as well? Not shure I can live with that :\

The thing to contemplate is are you likely to need to use both ports at the same time? If you are then, yes, it may be a problem, but if you only use one or the other at a time (or for brief periods of time). For example if you only plug into one of those ports to upload or download data to or from a device from time to time, and you don't access the port during your average computing session, then it may not be an issue. ;)

I would definitely want to transfer data directly from FW to eSata. At home, I'll also be SAVING files at the eSata, while I cache and run source files from a FW-disk.

Heh, it's kinda funny, this new eSATA slot is exactly where the IR is on my V1Jp.

I wonder who makes this eSATA chipset, unless they use the Intel chipset for it.

And what about battery wear problem? It seems is only at V1s. This problem actually stop me from buying it.. Also Vx2s has Vista Ultimate and 7200rpm 200gb HD.. And PERHAPS video card at vx2s is upgradeble( http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/Table.html)
But it really costs too much..

I haven't test the battery yet.
Yes the VX2S has Vista Ultimate 32 and Hitachi 200GB 7200rpm HD, but the video card is not MXM.

V1S-A1 is end of life, the refresh model will be V1S-B1 with T7700 CPU at same price.

Since we don't have any V1S-A1 left so I am just gonna use VX2S to test the games.

The problem I am having right now is I can't play BF2 and BF2142, as soon as I click the game to start it will go right back to desktop, I had the same problem with V1S-A1.

Were you getting decent frame rates when the settings were that high?

I think the frame rate is the little yellow number in the top corner, Ive been playing BioShock at 1680x1050 everything set to high, but texture detail which I have on medium, I dont get any dropped frames.

vsync on will kill frame rate. Same settings, same resolution, but with vsync off should produce low to mid twenties, and even thirties in some areas. The key though is lowering resolution. At a respectful 1280x1024 resolution I'm guessing the 8600GT could hold 30+ FPS constant.

If at all possible I would like to see more tests done (maybe using only 2GB of RAM) with vsync turned off and at lower resolutions.
