I hear you. I think what you are looking at here is a way low overclock on a chip by chip basis where the system as overclocked is really their baseline configuration. Gives some marketing advantages to sell on a gaming system. If they really wanted to offer overclocking as we see it there would be sliders (type in your own fsb, whatever) where the max position would be past untenable in that configuration with the available cooling.

As far as im concerned the Bios is calling the shots when it comes to turbo gear Cpu OC amount . I really wish it were the software though as it would be so much simpler.

I overclocked my cpu to 9ghz once, it was the same day I made love to a super model and found a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

Wish I had good days like that more often.

why people keep trying to pass this around? we been here and done this months ago. asked many questions and got no answers. not one as of this date.
and for the record, no! it's not the highest over clock of a notebook. some guy clocked in at 4.1 ghz and netted a 17.3k 3dmark06 score @ 3.9ghz (ocz whitebook)

and no one else with a qx9300 has even broke 17.5 yet
a whitebook/nagamaki both have been clocked to 3.9 ghz, but also said some funny things happen while doing so.

you can forget it! YOUR notebook is not going to do no 20k anything...why? because your not an asus rep.. :) (ps..that's if you have one.. :))

we are still waiting to see that same laptop has done a vantage mark run...since he does hold records in it for a desktop setup.

yeah i thought it could be fake but he seemed reliable. not getting answers was proof of his idiocy. i could hardly believe that it could be overclocked to 4ghz but i thought they were specialists. i want to easily play high end games and high resolution. i really dont care for benchmarks .

not saying it can't, just he left a lot of folks hanging on answers...and im not going to make excuses for it...we asked and flat out got nothing. and he is a respected over clocker as well.

    benchmarks are speed contests...
you can find all kinds of real time game benchmarks as well....

Nope, but the screen easily lights up the keyboard enough to type if you for some reason cant type without looking at the keys.

Wait and see if it comes back in stock, the Sager should be a good machine. Its like the hybrid between a W90 and a M17X hopefully it has the best of both and the worst of none.

Both the M17X and 9850 are going to cost more for equivalent configurations though :(

So far the M17X has lost to me in most game benchmarks but I think they just got some new modified drivers that put them slightly ahead in a few games, though since they are custom drivers and not just mobility modified stock drivers its possible they have them setup in a way that some visual quality is lost for performance.

Its so close I would call them even though.

yeah? well at least it does give me an option in case the asus doesn't get back in stock i would go for the sager! the alienware is just ridiculously to expensive here in australia.
i agree with you about those driver they can be funny sometime, all i want is to play game nicely :p

I would not get the m17x right now anyways, I love how it looks, and the changable lights, and the full keyboard, but the screen problems they are having and the low cpu OC's are absolute deal killers for me.

The W90 can OC higher even without a bios overclocking option like they have, and the performance for the gpu's and things is about dead even for a way cheaper cost.

So thats why I hope the Sager learns from there mistakes and does not have the same issues, as on the inside the chipset/gpu and stuff are all the same.

So they need a better bios, and a better screen and the Sager may end up being a very good unit. Still like the W90 despite being a 18.4" unit it does not have a full numberpad and the m17x does.... go figure.

i thought it is weird about the numberpad too... but asus has been good to me on my last laptop, i have been traveling hard and nothing is broken since 2 years, i think they are solid laptops, i would not know about the alienware and the sager.
plus it is my opinion that asus have great looking lcd s. i was gonna buy the asus when it came out first but i wanted to see what people where saying about overlocking... i got decided about two week ago and i realised they where none in stock so i thought they might have trouble with heat and stuff due to overclocking but the feedback on forum are still good so i realy wonder why we cant get any...
anyway thank you vicious for your advice it is much apreciated.
ps the m17x does look realy good :p
