This is for those of us who pre-ordered a G73 A1 and sadly are still waiting. Our shipment ETA is.....Not sure.....or 2 weeks past not sure. Yea this is basically a thread where we can complain and cry to one another without annoying those lucky $#*&$ who have their A2's or X1's all ready

im in for the excruciating wait and hoping ill get lucky with 8 gigs of 1333mhz and not the 1066 mhz

i suppose its great that others are reviewing and giving out tips and troubleshooting advice and we can just read read read till we get ours :)

wouldnt it be great if asus gave us freebies of stuff for the long wait :)

    thx all

Would be REALLY sad if the A1s all come with 1066 considering the wait and all.

Oh boy, I am just LOVING my new G73! This thing is so awesome. Last night it came into my room and tucked me into bed and gave me a little peck on the cheek just like moma used to do. And THEN, this morning it came in and brought me french toast. We then proceeded to play Battlefield and Dragon Age all day while giving eachother googly eyes. God I love this thing!

can I come in here and play? I paid $158 for overnight shipping, only to have it shipped back to ASUS HQ 7 days later. So, I have the unfortunate pain to know what it feels like to play on it, and to see it slip through my dirty little sausage fingers! (Tears in my beer)

    This made me laugh.

I liked how you relates the "shes performing great" to the "french toast making".

Hehe (this is a joke BTW - women are our equals!)

That is a provantage "special order" meaning they don't have it in stock.

I ordered it from ExcaliberPC. the $158 was for FedEx Saturday delivery. ExcaliberPC is located about 3 miles from the ASUS warehouse. As soon as ASUS had the G73JH-A2's in the warehouse, ExcaliberPC drove 3 miles to pick theirs up, and shipped mine right away. I had mine by 11:30am on Saturday, the 6th.

Shipping is covered both ways by ASUS, so I am not out any cash for the return. Unfortunately, I am startin to go through withdrawls now. Can't stop shaking.

    To rub this in.

If cancelled your A1 order and got the A2 or X1 you can order the same HL BD Reader/Combo drive for only $69.99 and actually saved $30 by doing so. You an also get the Sony BD Writer/Combo drive for only $220 with free shipping and again saved yourself $100 or more.
    - Especially since the A2 users are using their G73s with overclocked GPU with no heating issue and that for gaming/daily use, having an 920 does not have any noticable difference than using the 720. 920 has differences once you overclock, but if you read Mandrake's posting he had the bottom of the laptop opened with a fan blowing in.

Yep yep, I'll be ordering a BD reader probably this week also.

    Sorry

Wow, I would join in with you guys as an impatient future owner of a G73JH-A1... but I went to a local PC shop who is a official Asus dealer, asked them if they could order me one, and they said ETA would probably be around the 17th, of Feb.

So I expect to have mine sometime next week :p

Not to uh, rub it in or anything >.>

It's ok, I lied, went there today, ETA went up to like march 5th. Lady there called Asus, said they were on massive back order, which I knew anyway, but I had hope :\

Now I'll join in with the sadness :(

Oh, and yes rwny1 I would have to pay tax, but considering I would've gotten my laptop like, next week, I wouldn't mind lol

Im with you on hoping ASUS gives us something extra for the wait. Unfortunately i doubt anything like that would even cross their minds.

You do realize with our luck we will be the ones getting 1066 ram instead of 1333. At that point you could make an argument that we are getting an inferior model at a higher price and with a longer wait to boot :)

yea well looks like pretty much everywhere is out of stock as of now. I wouldnt have a clue how to install the BR drive if i went that route anyway and would be too scared to try.

Seems like a lot of people just wanna rub it in our faces that they have an A2 or X1 lol. We should make this thread A1 preorders who dont have a G73 yet ONLY ;) lol

haha i guess ur right on that tax part...sometimes u just gotta pay the man :) anyways good luck on the wait...who knows this might turn out good somehow...and i guess i love multiquoting...i just learned this earlier today...

sigh what a downer...there was a guy that thought we could get i7 820s for free now that would be sweet...but yah looks like we paid more for less :( it seems

hey at least this kills some time and all :) and bleh...its not too hard to install a blu ray drive i guess but we paid not to do it cuz we didnt want to be bothered...we wanted it done for us and etc etc...theres a flip side too since we can keep the original stock stuff if we did ourselves..anyways...i digress

ugghh those jerks...at least u have the olympics??...i think its because of nafta right?? i tried ordering a 60gig ps3 from sonystyle canada but was rebuffed as well

crap...should have posted separate posts so i can increase post count :)

You can add me to the list here :( Ordered from Xotic on Feb 2nd...I think, it was early Feb anyway.

And yeah, living in Canada, I was annoyed that the egg screwed us a bit! I would've gone for an A2 or X1 in a heartbeat. And as for the olympics...well, being in Ontario, the olympics being in BC doesn't make much of a difference, they're far away!

Why couldn't you guys just order from newegg U.S.? Is there some type of customs thing that prevents it, and if so why is it that you can order from xotic but not newegg U.S.?

0100 found out which BD writer is in the upgrade, and apparently can save yourself some money again if you just get the A2 and upgrade yourself.

Well... we could easily do that (order from xotic)... but not all of us are rich and can afford the extras that will get slapped on.

if its sent UPS it will incur and brokerage fee of around 100 bucks... then customs will want 10-13% of the total US value of whatever is being shipped. So your looking at addition 300 bucks for wanting it early.

if im not mistaken, newegg.com won't ship anything to Canada. bunch of goof balls over there at newegg.com

Back in the day, well lets just say years ago (im 26), we could easily get the merchant to mark "gift" on the packages and it would pass through (with no charge usually). Nowadays marking it as gift gives it about 10% chance to get through and if it doesn't they just charge you the insured amount.

    bs I think... BS!

Well I pre-ordered the A1 today. Even with the 139$ shipping and probably 25%tax added it comes out at about 60% of the cost it would have, had I ordered it here in Sweden. As long as I get it before the end of May, which should be no problem. Thumbs crossed

I might as well join this club for the moment. I sent in my X1 back to Newegg on Monday. It's on its way back because W7HP wouldn't recognize the 8GB ram. So I am RMAing and should get my machine back in a couple days...hopefully. At least they got plenty of stock left. I'm just so bummed that I can't play any games on it.

Oh, and I'm glad that they're not charging me any difference since the price went up so much on the X1 since I purchased it.

I ordered early January, last week Gentech told me it would be shipped this week if I switched to A2 and upgraded to Blu-ray only to have them tell me today it will be another two weeks...

The way things have gone, I can already predict they will announce another delay March 1st.... Sorry, new ETA March 17th...

Anyone else considered any other systems? Like the Sager NP8760?

Sager is not worth the money right now. I would wait for the new models to come out maybe @ CeBit. I know this is frustrating bit the more the wait the more the satisfaction :)

Concerning the delay in production of most new ASUS laptops, I believe the main reason could be the 7 days holiday in China.
They have currently the spring festival in China.

In USA at least they offered some of these new devices. Here is Europe they have not started to offer many of them until now. :(

That's why I ordered my N71JQ from USA.
