Ok, all these threads about these laptops are really getting annoying and pointless. All questions, comments and really anything else about these laptops can go here.
    I'll start it off....
Why is cyberpowerpc.com offering the c80 already??? And why do they have on a c2d cpu option for both the c90 and c80???

    Useful Links compiled by E.B.E.

That is not the c80 that is still the c90s, its just their dumb way of naming computers on their site.

Also JUST ORDERED MY C90 FROM GENTECH!! WOOT!! Hopefully I will get it mid next week. :D

Patiently (that's a lie) waiting for my productivity based (bigger lie) C90.

    Here's my question;
I have been looking closely at the C90 pictures and I can't see any clasps. Anyone know if the C90 has magnetic closure like the W3J (awsome machine BTW, I wish Asus had updated that line).

    God bless

odd for a laptop of this size/weight to not have something to hold the lid down

I've used the W3J for over a year, and the magnetic closure is a feature I've grown fond of. Although it has worn away some of the surface material.

I guess this is okay, but should we have an owner's lounge before anyone actually owns it...or has even been charged for one?

I ordered it from GenTech ( http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=C90S), for $1742.19. It's specs are the usual with the slightly slower 2.13GHz E6420. I'm okay with that, my goals since I started researching my next notebook was 2+2+Dx10 (2gig CPU, 2gig of RAM, and a mid-high Dx10 video card). The C90 meets or exceeds all of my goals, under my budget.
I really struggled between the G1S and C90 (and even the F3SV-b1 for awhile there, it was the best looking I thought, but I couldn't get past the 8600GS[vs the GT]), but the C90 won me over because of price, performance and upgradeability. That and because I saved so much on the C90 (due in part to GenTech's prices), I had also wanted Vista Ultimate, and I wouldn't have been able to do that with the G1S (with Vista Ultimate it came to $2100+)

the c91s should be slightly less expensive right? Considering it is the same except it doesn't support extreme cpu's and over clocking...
Any release info or pics for it besides "roughly" a month after the c90s?

Yea it should be about 100 bucks cheaper without the heatsink in it.

Also, I had a crazy dream about the C90 last night, that there was this crazy sci-fi contraption that you could hook your computer into and it would shoot fireworks behind a monolith with some specs on it that you could change on a big LED display(I chose my FSB, so I could watch the over-clock), and how fantastic the fireworks were related directly to how powerful your computer was (Laptops only). The record holder on the machine thusfar was a slightly overclocked Dell XPS 1710. So I plugged mine in, watched the bars on my screen go up and down (they were measuring every single performance aspect of the computer), and it put me third or fourth place in the rankings. So I hit the overclocking button and the LED display was getting brighter and brighter until it was a blazing white, 1334MHz. I ran the test again, this time looking for fireworks (turns out they were incompatible with Windows Vista, go figure). By the time I was finished being bummed about that, I was able to watch my bar creep ever closer to the XPS' score and finally passed it, just by a few points.

I think the point of it all was, this machine overclocked will be a **** beast.

Alex, can you give the link to your specs?

I kind of figured the C91 might be more expensive. I thought I read somewhere that it would have Santa Rosa, the C90's low price is in part attributed to it's desktop parts right?

Yea, but I heard the C91L will have mobile parts, but integrated graphics, the C91S will still support Conroes but will not support the Extreme processors or overclocking (i.e. will not have the heatsink).

EDIT: About the release date, Asus has it that it is "launched" on their website, but take any Asus release deadline with a grain of salt, they change them all of the time, and sometimes they will be just out of the blue "THEY'RE HERE!" so yes, word from Asus is "by friday" but savoir faire would teach us not to be disappointed if it were next week. (I really think it will be this week though, because a June release is almost imperative for them to make, what with their other launches in July and August, they would be SCREWED!)

Am I the only person who is getting it barebones and nabbing the rest of the parts off NewEgg/installing them on my own?

    I think I saved $100, at least. (E6600, 2 gigs of 667 G.skill, 100GB 7200.1 Seagate, even Home Premium is considerably cheaper).

I was thinking about it, but what would the Ram specifics and hard drive specifics be, If i'm looking for a 80gb hard drive and 2gb ram for the c90. If you can get links to newegg items. I could find the OS for 30$ cheaper, the Processor for 20$ cheaper, now for ram and hard drive?

I tried asking in accessories but no response and I need to order the speakers today. So how good is the azalia audio chip on the c90? I want to hook up the logitech z2300s to it. Any response would be greatly appreciated because some of the reviews off of newegg I read mentioned it was pointless having that speaker set if you had ac 97 but how much better is azalia. I dont want to buy a good set of speakers but then have it be wasted if the chip isnt good enough. I will HIGHLY appreciate any help, time is of the essence.

I bought mine barebones, but after looking for the parts I wanted, my reseller had them for cheaper anyway (after figuring in paying shipping on each of the parts in addition to the computer.) So I figured I would just have it all come in one box. In addition, they are the only ones that sold the 160GB 7200.2 Momentus drive for a reasonable price.

I still think it is ridiculous to have an owner's lounge for a laptop no one actually owns yet. But I am all for cleaning up the mess around here, so whatever. Also, I don't get what makes it official.

No im doing the same, I wont get everything from newegg tho.

I got my hdd from futurepowerpc the 250gb western digital scorpio for 190$, the cpu im waiting till next month when the price cuts come thru. The ram I'll snag from our hot ram deals thread, 4gb for like 180$ but I have not decided if I want 4gb or just 2 yet and thus why im holding off on that, and also hopeing sombody tries to put 4gb of ram in here and see if it works with a x64 based operating system.

What price cuts? Next month only quad cores will get a price cut up to 50% if thats what your talking about otherwise the c2d conroes will get a price cut around September.

Oh its only the quad? I was under the impression its across the board to compete with AMD's STARS cpu's.

    Edit: heres the chart

    http://www.vr-zone.com/index.php?i=4976

No price cuts per say.... I guess I was thinking about the new cpus. Im still in debate wether to get the quad core and overclock it for my desktop or get something like a 3ghz stock 4nm with a 1333mhz fsb dual core for the same price. Thats like the ultimate performance chip for sombody that doesnt want to overclock, never before has somthing that strong been so cheap. The 45nm cpu's are showing a good boost in performance vs the older current C2D at the same clock speed aswell. I can only imagine the overclocking limits on these things...

Guess I'll have to sit back and wait for some enthusiast to overclock these and pick one then. I wish the C90 was bearlake then it could use one of the new cpu's that would have been a smart move I think, esp for a "upgradable" notebook.

Just curious, is there a proper way to recharge a battery? I hear it is best to let it run fully out, and then let it fully charge. Because this won't have much battery life, I want to make the best of it.

older nicad batteries you want to let drain and then charge full every time. you don't want to do this with lithium ion

what you want to do is charge it to full, then let it drain to full, just once. After that keep it topped off, don't let ti die again. You might want to drain the battery all the way down maybe twice a month, because after a while it becomes more difficult for the laptop to know when the battery is low or not. I forgot the specifics as to why this is, there's some nice articles out on the web if you google it.

Ok, that is what I thought actually. But I did look around and I didn't see something aobut discharging it completely, just once. So maybe that is not necessary? --I remember someone else saying this to me once though as well.

    Not sure... But I wonder...
I like the Asus C90S and all, but I think I might wait for the C80 or the C70. I'm waiting for high end GeForce 8000s or beginning of GeForce 9000s, along with quad core cpus. Unless they don't come out for a while. Also- inspite of Vista, it's got some bugs still needed to be settled, so a wait on that might be smart. What do you all think?

Waiting as long as you can to buy a laptop is always the best course of action. You wait until it is imperative to buy, or until you find a deal you can't pass up. Sometimes, though, you find a computer that is just...the one...and you have to get it, then you do :D

Its up to you, you can wait forever, as things will always keep getting better.

You wont see a quad core or a 8800 card in a small notebook anytime soon tho I dont think, just too much heat to deal with.

But you may very well see them in a high end 17" notebook.

So its a matter of needs, if you need it now then get it now. If you dont... then you can wait. The c80 isnt exactly close tho its not even on the offical release schedule yet.

I know ill be happy with the c90 it can play any current game with no issues and should last into the future for a good bit. As its dying out there may very well be a better video card to upgrade to and you can get more life out of it, but MXMII is pretty limiting.

Vista is not an excuse tho, as the c90 doesnt come with an OS unless you buy one for it so you can put XP on there if you want, plus vista itself is mostly bug free and has great driver support now, even x64 is pretty much compatible with anything you toss at it aslong as your not trying to use old hardware/software with it.

So what's better for Vista: 32 bit or 64 bit?

Also- I'm going to college here in the next 2 years. Would it be beter for a laptop now for 2 years of freedom or wait until college when I'll use it most for work, and have an excuse to wait for a good laptop? I know some of you guys may have an idea if you've gone to college with a laptop...

32-bit, no reason to add another layer of incompatibility. Especially for the C90, which doesn't even support 4GB of RAM.

no 32-bit is better. 64-bit has compatibility issues on top of Vista's issues, also you wouldn't be able to utilize the >3.5GB RAM feature because the C90 only supports 3GB Max. That is just my opinion though.

If you have alot of 64bit programs or just like to be more techy you can try 64bit. Im actually going for a dual boot x86/x64 vista and maybe even a triple boot with xp on there.

I have not ever used vista x86 only the 64bit one. First I will do a dual boot and bench a few games and programs between the two and see if performance is the same. If it is I'll stick with x86. Then if I have any issues Ill add xp in there.

So far x64 vista has a pretty big performance kill on some of my game, but very few compatablity issues and its only getting better every day.

I say get a desktop until college, and then get a laptop when you need to travel some.

That's awesome. I'm working to become a pilot, which means I will be traveling a lot in the future. But what about between now and college? I've been using this weaker light gaming desktop I got a few years ago. Never owned a laptop though.

If you really want one, then go ahead, for some reason, even though I could get by without the portability, and could use the extra power per dollar, I love notebooks and can't use anything else. There is just something about them I find irresistible. In that case, by all means get one now. (and by now I mean in about 3-4 months when Penryn comes out)
