If you are not using external cooler it's normal for that laptop. What is your load temps? My laptop also used to idle 59-61C when I didn't use cooler.
My suggstion is to buy external cooler, so you also will be able to overclock GPU withing safe temp range.

I just ordered it from Best Buy since Bing cash back was offering 10% off.

After looking through another thread, I was hoping someone else could confirm the answer to a question I had.

Is it true that there is no way to disable the external LED lights on the lid other than physically disconnecting the power to it?

Yesterday, found intresting update for windows in update center. "Microsoft update for Nvidia GTX 260M" . I am very curious is that just simple driver update or some system fix to improove performance of VGA? Anybody have this update? I'll try to update today or maybe tomorrow...

Thanks for answer. My confusion is that 195.62 is latest from Nvidia. There is also beta 195.81 available, but I thought that Windows update woun't install any beta drivers...

I think yes, but one important note update it with EZflash utility located in bios menu. It's the safest way. Here you can find how to do it. One important note use usb flash drive as bios update source(put bios file into the root of your flash drive), if you will update from hard drive it may cause problems.

Hey guys Just a couple quick questions. i am looking to buy either the g71 or 72 b/c i love the specs and the 260m. i went and looked at the g72 at best buy and was not that crazy about the touchpad that kinda felt like an air hockey table and no scroll on the side. i was told that the g71 was different but it looks the same in pics. and in what way is the g71 better/worse than the g72. thanks in advance and i look forward to joining the club very soon.

I like G72 touchpad here are reasons:
1 It feels good for me/
2 It can be switched off(little button on laptop switches it off)
3 touchpad supports multitouch(not sure G71 does) and it has scroll. That scroll isn't painted, but it's located as usual at the edge of touchpad.

So, I see no difficulties with it! And one more reason it's looks awesome!! :D

Oh, and WELCOME to the club!!!

I have found the g71 for 879 shipped and still can only find the g72 for about 950-960 on ebay or 999 at best buy + tax. trying to figure out if the g72 upgrades are worth it. :/ sigh

Is that G71 new? I thought that there are only reconditioned now available. If it's reconditioned then, my advice get G72 for additional 100$ you will get 1 year warranty instead 1 month for reconditioned. I think it worth that. G71 and G72 are almost identical exept some changes in case and touchpad. Main upgrade for me is Display(1600*900),which is way better that in G71.

Hello! I recently purchased a G72 and have had some problems with it. Turbo Gear is locked, I can not turn on the overclocking mode (not that precise, but does not open) and installed the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and the game runs very well most of the time, however, it dropped the FPS by about 10 seconds and then back. Monitoring the temperature, COD in the graphic card reaches 93 degrees celsius. Anybody know what might be causing this?

PS: sorry for the English and thanks for reading.
PS2: A screen of my turbo gear overclock disabled and normal temp. of vga.

Asus locked Turbogear function for quad core CPU. If you want to overclock use SetFSB. 93C in demanding games is normal for this laptop. To avoid fps drops update your video drivers with latest from Nvida. I suggest you to buy external laptop cooler. for now I can suggets to rise backside of your laptop little bit to open airflow more it will decrease temp fo 2-3C. Look this thread

    Thank You Tim4! It`s a wonderfull machine, isn`t? :)

Dude, I already have the latest version of nvidia installed here. The problem occour in any "heavy" game, CoD MW2, Devil May cry 4, CoD WW and others. In nvidia pannel I disabled the PhysX GPU acceleration and in Devil May Cry 4 the problem was solved, but in CoD still happens. Maybe a different version of nvidia software?? This is very annoying =/

The clock generator should be 9LPRS929AKLF. But I think that setFSB has some issues with the G71GX/G72GX. Sometimes the system locks up when you try to OC with it.

No. I did not upgrade the bios and just installed the new video driver, as I always do and not understand how the sweeper works. I think that 95 C is the temperature limit of the VGA, because I always see that temperature when the FPS drops.

If so, you surely need laptop cooler. And try to reinstall drivers as i described. It's very easy.

    Driver sweeper

    http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

It just removes leftovers from a driver installation.

Driver sweeper is sofware to clean system from driver traces. Download it here
1)Uninstall all nvidia drivers and physics
2)Reboot and while booting press F8.You will see many options of Windows booting. Choose Safe Mode.
3)Run Driver sweeper. You will see window where you will choose nvidia drivers and nvidia physycs. Press clean. And reboot again.
4)Install new drivers and you are finished.
Hope I wrote all clear. Good luck with solving your problem.

    hey guys another question.

Im having issues with my comp now. I put it in sleep mode and when i turn it back on i get the BSOD(blue screen of death). It cuts off then comes back on.

As soon as i try to do anything the BSOD comes back and cuts off.

Ive gotten it to be somewhat stable now but still worried about it. The only applications i have downloaded on the computer are (WoW, Curse(addon client for WoW), Itunes, Safari, Ventrillo(group voice servers).

However i have noticed that shutting it down then turning it back on makes it more stable. Id like to know what the hell is causing this. Because if it doesnt stop I'm gonna have to take it back. Sad really i love this thing. Any ideas on whats up with it?

Can you look what file mentioned during BSOD if it's somthing begining "nv" it's VGA driver. I had this issue. You need to reinstall VGA drivers. Use my instructons in post before. This will solve your issue. Good luck!!
