Official ASUS ROG Strix SCAR II GL704GM-DH74 Owner’s Lounge

Greetings everyone! I'm Bob Of All Trades on YT and HID is gracious enough to lend me their GL704 per my request. I'm anxious to cover the thin bezel 17" model as their chassis size is nearly identical to the traditional 15" gaming laptop chassis.

The benefits aside from potential improved thermals is that a 17" FHD laptop allows its user to use 100% scaling in windows without eyestrain. While this might seem silly to many, the quality of life here is very high. All font and apps are now crystal clear! (Obviously there's more benefits to the larger footprint)

how is the battery life? is there option to disable nvidia and just use the intel graphic?

 

No it will run on g-sync the whole time I would imagine you would only get around 2 hours of battery life

My understanding is that the 15” 1060 has Optimus and the 1070 didn’t.

I would love it if this didn’t! Not a fan of Optimus at all.

Excellent! Thanks for reviewing this GL704 laptop. Could you tell me how the laptop behaves if you load Ubuntu live on a USB stick? Fan profile things you notice, RGB limitations? Great content!

 

Did it die on you B0B ? been a month and no review here or on YT I can find? but maybe my GoogleFu is low ?

 

It took awhile to get to me. It might have been on back order. I just received it earlier this week. Working on the review now.

 

thanks for the heads Up , I assumed you had it when you posted about it last month.... been looking at this or the new MSI in the same size with the 144hz IPS like panel , my eyes can't handle TN panels unfortunately.
