I would start by clicking on the specifications tab here: Asus UL50Ag Web Site.

The fact that this laptop has DDR2 and not DDR3 RAM is going to affect your ability to overclock.

Aren't these the types of questions one should be asking BEFORE making their purchase? What do you plan to do if the laptop cannot be overclocked?

Does your horizontal scrolling multitouch work as well? Vertical scrolling works great, but I can't get the horizontal working. I have a UL30A-A2 and am running karmic.

    Jason -
My results are the same as BigDoggs. I still get an occasional lockup and still am running some ASUS programs. I am willing to bet it is the nvidia drivers, but have no way to prove it other than it only locks up when running the dedicated graphics mode.

    Hello all!

I bought a UL80VT last week and it came with FreeDos and cd full of Vista Drives, and I cant get to work my g210m on a clean windows 7 install.

I have installed all the drivers from the asus site, and when I pushed de boost button it changes de power mode, but nothing else.

In the device manager it says that the intel integrated graphics card its ok installed, but the g210m has a problem and windows cant solve it.

    Can anybody helpme?

Thanks and sorry for my tarzan english, not my native thong.

You can clean install the laptop, and just use the driver / utility CD that came with the laptop. However, you might want to install most of the drivers (including some useless ones) so that you can switch between IGP and discreet graphics card.

    I'm surprised that G210 can even run CODMW2 :p.

Mine gets to about 70C running WoW at screen resolution (1366 x 768) with minimum details. Its quite high to my likings though.

that is the problem, i dont think mine came with any software recovery disk. they only offer me to do burn image to dvd ( 4 dvd actually) and when i recover via that dvd, i just need to insert and wait for the factory recovery to finish... no option to which programs or which i want or don`t want to isntall.

the reason i asked this because i have my own windows 7 ultimate and i want to use it on my ul80vt...

Guess there are no active ubuntu users in this thread. Sadface.

The system comes with a recovery partition. Press F9 as your system boots up to recover it to factory settings, though this doesn't help with your intended upgrade to Win 7 Ultimate.

so, i've found how to get into bios, i tried to OC it using ASUS software built in the bios. it doesnt give me much option in oc'ing like fsb, multiplier and etc. it only give me the %, the default was at 3%, tried changing it to 4% and went to windows and checked with cpu-z to see if the clock speed went up but it stayed at 1.73, this the speed at 3%.
    what happened here?

The on disk emanual for the ul80vt shows a slot for a Kensington lock cable on the right hand side of the notebook.

But, I don't see it there. In fact, there is a memory card reader on the right that is not shown in the manual.

Is there a Kensington lock slot someplace on the ulvt? I can't find it.

My lock slot is a small hole to the right (back) of the power port. A2, but i'm sure it's similar if not identical.

Thanks. I see the lock slot now.
But, that my Kensington cable lock has a different shape.
What sort of cable lock is that?

    update:

OK. I downloaded a new version of the manual from the Asus web site.
    "Security Port
The security port allows the Notebook PC to be secured to a fixed object with a 2 mm metal cable."

What do they mean? Does anyone make a locked security cable for this?
    What are you using?

can any ul80vt-a1 owner check their laptop's max memory support, whether it is 8GB or 4GB please? On the Amazon website, it shows that it can support 8GB max memory while on the Asus product website, it shows that it can only support up to 4GB max memory. Thank you.

Anyone with the ul80 try playing youtube 1080p vids on just the intel 4500 mode? How about 1080p mkv/avi files? Is it smooth? thanks

looking at getting the ul80ag which only has intel 4500 and I think it doesn't have TurboBoost. So please take that into consideration.

I'm not using anything. Those laptop locks are pretty unreliable. :D

I have the A2 which uses the silver chassis. The build feels super-sturdy. Quality, not cheap. Not springiness in my keyboard and no obvious weakspots elsewhere.

Also, the silver models only have the black around the screen and it is a HUGE magnet for dust and prints. It makes me beyond glad that I didn't get an all-black model.

Umm, you have the Asus ul30vt-a2 not the 80 I don't think they make that one in a silver yet.

    Anyways,
man this sucks the Ul80VT is backordered on almost every website!! I ended up ordering from Xciopc I do have a quick question I did upgrade to a 500gb sata 7200rpm harddrive, by how much is that going to affect the battery life?

xoticpc.com's configurator shows you can have up to 8GB max. I wrote them about it and they said it's true. I think it just comes with 4GB installed from Asus but can go up to 8GB max. That's what I got from their email anyway.

Those specs (and price!) differ from the US version UL80Vt. It shows the same 320 gb HD but then later says 2.5 SATA 1TB?! Seems to have bluetooth and only a 6 cell batt. Also doesn't specify ddr3 memory. I'd say not worth that price...

I picked up a UL80VT approx. 1 week ago, and have one nagging issue that I can't resolve. After restoring the computer from hibernate, I lose the ability to change brightness with the Fn buttons everytime. I've only tested this using the integrated graphics so far, will test with discrete tonight. Has anyone else had this issue or anything similar? Swtiching to discrete graphics and back again allows the brightness options to work again. Any help?

I bought a silver UL80VT-WX006V about 3 weeks ago, and the price was US$959. I bought it in Indonesia and it has a Seagate 500GB HD, 4GB DDR3 memory, bluetooth, Intel WiFi Link 1000, and an 8-cell 5600mAh battery as well as the other standard spec for a UL80VT. I think this particular model is only available in Southeast Asia, and unfortunately more expensive than the US models.

After 3 weeks of use, I can say for certain that the build quality is on the cheap side. I don't think it's any better than the black model. Mine has the squeaky palm rest on the left side and sharp edges on the left and right sides of the palm rest which hurt my wrists if I rest my hands on the palm rest. The sharp edge is caused by the bottom black plastic part not fitting right with the top silver plastic part. I'm sure a little bit of sandpaper rub can fix this, but since it's brand new I can't bring myself to sandpaper it just yet.

I personally feel Asus went a bit too far in cutting the build quality down, but whatever's inside is great. I'm pretty happy with it, although I'd be willing to pay an extra $100 or so for better build quality and LCD screen.

Right now, Amazon is in stock through Tiger Direct. Talking to a Newegg representative, the April date an estimate from newegg and not from ASUS. He estimates they will get it in stock before then. Justin from Xoticpc couldn't give me an estimated date...

yo itaru, same country as me too, but i bought mine at singapore.
mine is ul80vt13uh50d7pm-gb, specs are the same as itaru .

after discount and gst refund i calculated mine to be $1375 SGD.

so far my machine has no hardware problem like most of the bros/user said in here, but my complain for my machine is the memory low problem. my old eee pc 1000h with 2 gb could last me 1 week before saying memory low, while my ul80vt, 6 hours top T_T

without doing anything the ram keep on "leaking"

i hope a system reformat could solve it.

On the other hand, the paint is known (or at least more prone) to flake off on the silver models which the black ones are immune to...so both have their pros and cons. I personally think the black looks better. Smudges and prints can be easily wiped off, while chipping paint would look far worse IMO and reduce the resale value.

Just some things to think about for people lucky enough to be able to pick from both models. :)

Quite a few people looking for a UL80VT! If anyone wants to buy mine I guess I would be willing to sell it. I bought it from xoticpc. It has Windows Pro 7 on it, came with the OEM Windows 7 Pro install CD. It has an Intel 80 gig X25 GI SSD, also installed by xoticpc and it has the diamond compound on CPU and graphics card. I paid a tad over 1300 for it, would sell it for 1200. If interested you could email me at [email protected]

Hi, I too would like to know this. I'm looking to buy one of these {either the UL80 or UL50}. Could someone let me know if when hooking this up to a TV via HDMI, the sound is also transmitted with the picture? It would seem odd these days to not have the sound come out of the HDMI.

I just tried this last week, when I hooked the laptop to my TV via HDMI both picture and sound comes from the TV. However it seems like the edges of my desktop is a little cut off. I've tried changing resolution and everything but no fixes, has anyone else noticed this?
