So does mine. One of the first things I tried was pressing the button to switch graphics.

Which one do I download? I have two techs telling me to download different ones from Asus Live Chat.

Only time I'm able to get on NVIDIA card is when I get this.

Just curious, does ASUS include a recovery disk with the UL80vt?

I am going to replace the hard drive once I get my laptop in the mail and I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to get Windows on it.

It comes with 3 Discs. Their Windows Disc, but with an Asus label on it, the Drivers disc, and a 3rd disc labeled Power4Gear.

ZZZ, luckily amazon offers excellent replacement program. If I knew about it I'd request a replacement on the first day I got the notebook. Guess my problems will be solved when it arrives.

I asked this a couple of pages ago and perhaps it was missed. Does anyone know where I can check out the UL80VT in person in a brick and mortar store? Best Buy doesn't seem to carry them anymore.

ESATA IS Missing!! Creative solutions? <Apply Within>

    1. So, what about the optical drive? Fast swap to remove sata drive, or bolted down plastic-bending unfriendly?

    2. Could it be replaced with a 2.5 inch hd or a SSD?

    3. Any Twearkers take on a challange to convert the optical into Esata ?

    4. Any comment on quality of Optical Drive?

boot time is 33 seconds to network up and firefox loaded to google start page.

Do you see any noticeable difference in the battery life? I've heard the SSDs draw less power than regular HDDs but I've also heard the opposite.

It doesn't really matter, I'll be ordering the Intel 80gb G2 for the performance boost. But I was just curious if the battery life is noticeably effected.

I believe the only way you could do this is by replacing the Optical Drive with the extra HDD. And even then, you'd need to find a hard drive bay that would fit inside the laptop.

I will probably be buying this laptop next week(before the Amazon gift card deal expires).

I have heard people complain a lot about the screen quality. This will be my first laptop, so I am not sure what to expect. I just used my sisters dv4-1435dx for about an hour. How does the UL80 screen compare to the dv4?

Is there a list of necessary applications(bloatware/utilities) to keep so you don't loose functionality? I hate unecessary junk :)

I read some posts about the GPU hitting 100C. That is kind of scary. Is that a defective unit or does it really hit that high(some people said max was 72C)?

    I appreciate the help!

Question Regarding the UL50vt-x1 (but pretty much applies to all models).

I understand that the SU9300 is an ultra low voltage processor focused on providing good battery. However, I noticed that ASUS overclocks it in turbo mode to 1.7ghz? My question is will this be enough to perform video editing tasks with reasonable speed (HDV 30P) in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and Adobe After Effects CS3 or should I look for a more powerful system? Also if it can run those video editing programs, will it be able to run Left 4 Dead 2 smoothly?

I don't know about video editing, but yes it can run Left 4 Dead 2 smoothly at medium/high settings.

Nope, I dont think so. I bought mine with an SSD from xoticpc and all warranties are in place. In fact I already sent mine in to Asus to have them look at the keyboard. Xoticpc may now warranty some things, like the SSD.

It's the HD Zune, it shows up in your cart when you add the laptop along with a discount for the price of the Zune.

Changing RAM, HDD, or wireless card will for sure have no effect on warranty.

And despite the sticker, unless you're a ham-handed idiot changing/repasting the CPU and GPU won't, either.

You have to add both the ul80vt and the $100 gift card to your shopping cart. Then when you check out (on the "Place Your Order" screen, before you finally submit your order) you'll see it say "Promotion Applied: -$100.00"

    Hope this helps!

Anyone tried updating the G210m drivers? After the "successful" installation of the 195.55 drivers I restarted to only see a desktop which can go up to 1024x768. I've lost the ability to switch between cards and the Nvidia control panel says it can't find any hardware on this computer. I'm trying a fix now from the Asus site, but I don't know if it will work yet. I'll post back soon with any updates.

regarding the UL80VT build quality, even though it has flex issues and how the chassis isn't cemented together, do you guys think it will withstand travel use? such as, taking it to school and putting it in a backpack full of textbooks/notebooks. i don't want this somehow breaking on me while im moving from class to class. hehe

    thanks!

Got my laptop back from ASUS. They replaced the LCD, but the other problems still exist. I'm quite disappointed with the service here and the quality of this ASUS. Am I just spoiled by the exceptional quality of the U6S. Maybe cause it cost twice as much. Should I ask them to try again or is this really part of the design.

I had sent mine in to Asus for the jingly keyboard problem on the left side. Although they did fix the left side, the right side now jingles and did so when I got it back. I did call back and got another RMA and then I decided not to deal with sending it back and just deal with the keyboard as it is the only part of the laptop I am unhappy with, though it does bug me.

Just ordered the UL80vt from Amazon. I've never had a laptop before and was curious do you have to fully charge the battery before using it? And also do you need to wait till the battery is low before charging? Thanks

Yes charge it up when you first get it. No don't drain the battery before charging. It's lithium-ion so charging it up whenever you can is good, and leaving it in the charger after it's already 100% is fine. Unnecessary draining of the battery will only help decrease the overall lifetime of the battery.

    I have two questions.

    1. I'm trying to calibrate the screen to get optimal display settings (color, gamma, etc.) for both integrated and discrete graphics modes. Can someone who has done this already post the "settings" they are currently using for both modes?

    2. Similar question for the trackpad. Can someone please post the settings they have the pointer "speed", scrolling speed etc. - I find the pointer a little sensitive/finicky and wanted to try some "optimized" settings.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated!

You could try turning off pointer acceleration. That might help to stop it from feeling too sensitive/jerky.
