Well, my G71Gx-A1 broke after only owning it for three months. After a month and a half of waiting for parts that never showed up to the Asus repair center, they sent me a G72Gx-A1. So far, I'm impressed. I'm remembering all the awesome performance I got out of my old laptop and more.

First of all, the case is a lot nicer. I wasn't much of a fan of the excessive use of case lighting. I always had them off. I'm iffy about the Mac Book look of the keyboard, but I can live with it. The backlighting is amazing. Most laptops that have backlighting are usually only okay. You can see most of the keys, but not all. Not the case here. You can see all the keys perfectly in pitch black. This case also has much better speakers installed. The speakers on the G71 were pitifully bad. Also, the fans on this laptop are a lot better than the G71. Unlike the G71, where the fans would only really kick in under load, the G72's fans are always running strong. This is really a good thing because the G71 and the G72 get very hot. Due to this, I believe that the G71 is prone to overheating more than the G72. This case has to have better fans because you can feel the air blowing out of the case, unlike the gentle breeze I felt from the G71. The G72 seems to be more heavy in the back than my G71.

Performance-wise, the G72Gx-A1 and G71Gx-A1 should be identical. They have the same GPU, CPU, and RAM; however, it seems like the G72 provides slightly better performance. I'm not sure if it's because the cooling is a bit better or if the drivers for the 260M have improved, but I definitely feel like the G72 performs better.

While the G72Gx-A1 may be old news compared to the G73JH-A2, I believe that it is an upgrade from my old G71Gx-A1. It has more space, a better design, and I'm pretty sure they treated a few of the cooling issues with the G71. Unfortunately, the G72 is still ridiculously hot. Still, it is an improvement and I'm happy to have gotten such a good replacement.
