I don't remember details, sorry, I just know voltage readings were being inconsistent so I couldn't trust RMClock to control the voltages, either. Also temperature readings were inconsistent between RMClock and MobileMeter, AFAI remember.

As to another question on the thread, the question about the CPU being detected improperly (well it wasn';t actually a question): If your CPU is detected as a desktop CPU (e.g., Conroe) go to Advanced CPU Settings, and select Mobile CPU manually.

I'm not implying only RMClock is suffering from these problems -- but it's the program I use, I trust NHC even less because it hasn't been updated in a while.

So, to make a clear statement: I cannot trust RMClock to set my voltages as long as it cannot read the voltages properly. If you're knowledgeable and sure that you can workaround this problem, then go ahead and use RMClock to undervolt. But if you're not, then it's best to not use RMClock to undervolt.

Edit: I meant MobileMeter instead of CPU-Z.

I saw a post about some kind of asus hotkey software where you could choose what the keys do... I have no idea where I saw it but worth giving a search. Hope this helps your problem, I feel your pain. Love the option - hate hitting it every 20 seconds when i'm using the touch

I'm having a little weird xp sp3 startup issue, its like depending on how i shut down, either pressing the button or clicking shut down under start menu it starts up with a little different icons in the taskbar. Like one startup my audio icon dissapeared. The next my battery/ac icon wasnt there, another they both were.... go figure my icons like playing hide and seek

for the drivers, i recently (late june) installed xp pro sp3, and from asus website, the download section was able to download each part seperately by simply typing in the name as it was listed on the m50sv page. (because that dl page has only vista drivers)

each one worked perfectly, EXCEPT, (just tried it now for you) the latest version of the TOUCHPAD.
version 10.1.6 works with the media functions, 10.1.8 DOES NOT.
i tried the asus or synaptics version, and neither work, so 10.1.6 is what i stay with.

the top function buttons are managed by the ATK series of stuff, not sure specifically which one, ATK-hotkey driver, Atk-hotkey-utility, ATK-media, ATK-OSD2.
etc. type in ATK in asus download, pick yer OS (top right) and have a day.

i wasn't able to find a plugin or utility to allow you to mess with the program attachments.
let me know if anyone does..

WOOOOO!!! finally figured out what has been causing this keyboard to mess up so much for me

i 'forgot' to install a 'KB_filter' driver. get it by typing KB in the asus download section, choose OS and away you go!

without it, its like the keyboard skips keystrokes multiple times a sentence

with it, its like a normal laptop keyboard behaves. YIPEEE!

Weird. I never install that one and never had any problems. Maybe this is the long-sought solution for the M50 keyboard lag? I posted a link in that thread, in any case...

    Hey guys,

I'm seriously considering the Asus M50Sv(15.4)/f8(14.1) for college in september, my plan is to either get an Asus, PS3, & HDTV an or a NP8660. Basically, spread my money out, or get one bad ass system (9800M M860tu). $2000, or simply just get the Asus and save $700.

I'd love to know your 0.02 in my post:

I've been using 174.31 without any issues in XP. It allows overclocking and runs very stable. ;)

HEY!!!....haha now that the VM model is out doesn't mean we have to stop talkin about our SV'ssss............how did you overclock your 9500gs to 653/522 and not overheat during a benchmark...is that in 3dmark 06...because I'm having a hard idea that this happened....

yeah man, true as it is, i did 3dmark 06, on 635/523, 1440x900 score was like 4895.
and at 1280 setting, score was 5310. woot! at stock cpu speeds.
and i oc'd even higher, to 686/523 and got 5100 something at 1440. but there were a few artifacts and whatnot during, so i can't truthfully consider that a 'real' score. but it didn't shut down on me. rofl.

i'm one of those guys that redid all my thermal paste, if you are real careful, you can take up the sticker for warranty and redo the paste and put the sticker back and its very hard to tell. so we'll see. but i like to know for sure that my stuff is as cool as it can be.

did you mess around at all with rmclock and undervolt? its pretty sweet man.
    i got it down to .092v @ 2ghz (10x) cpu-z says 1.038v, for my throttle setting, and 1.0375v @ 2.5/2.7 (13xIDA disabled) setting cpu-z says 1.150v. works great, highest teemps i've seen are 56-57C

wow for such a high OC you only got 100 points better 1280...but thats a pretty good 1440 score...yea I messed around with it and used your first setting you told me about i use 6.0x at .925 volts all the way up to 12x which is at 1.1 OC to 2.75 it definitely stays a bit cooler when runnin hard...I put it up to 2.802 ghz when rippin movies and it runs great...yea after I rip this set of movies im gonna do a bench and see how it does when being on for a while...I got a new notebook cooler too which is outstanding....by the way is that 635 core/523 memory or vice versa

Hey BuNsiE, good to see that you are still loving your M50Sv. I still think mine is great, but I must confess to some M50Vm envy.

I don't mind the longer battery life....or the faster CPU and GPU....but the Express Gate Technology is really appealing to me.

Thus, my question to all....is the Express Gate operating systeim something that could be downloaded onto a M50Sv? My main use of the computer is websurfing and would really like to be able to do that in 8 seconds. :p

Unfortunately, it's not something you can just download :( The Express Gate splashtop is integrated into the motherboard so us M50Sv owners are SOL :p

I'm not sure if I follow. Do you mean looking at the screen stresses your eyes? I get that all the time no matter what screen I use, especially if I've been starring at the screen for more than a few hours.
What you could do is try dimming the brightness, especially if you have all the lights turned off. That should relieve eyes a bit.

were you doing any other tasks while transferring the file? ie playing music or any other programs that will utilize your CPU and HDD?

    Hi Gary,
The Asus Drivers DVD has all the drivers for both Vista 32/64, however, I do recommended download the newer VGA driver in order to play all the latest games, at least I do found the Asus VGA driver does not work with World in Conflict, download new nVidia driver here:

    @ JohnnyBosc
I tried cleaning the fan (which was still quite clean. there were hardly any dust). I wanted to take a good look of what's inside this pretty machine anyway.. :D

    @kaseykrehbiel
Probably I messed up the Power4Gear Extreme settings. I didn't install any tweaking or overclocking apps.
I tried changing everything I could change in Power4Gear Extreme, and I think I messed it up again.. :p . Now my fan is running in "low and quiet" (as described by Asus NB Probe) and my cpu and gpu temps are rising. Even if I switched it to high performance, the fan is still running on low and quiet... now my cpu is around 38-40 on idle (is that normal?)

Can I control the fan speed without changing the power scheme (without me changing it accidentally :)) or I should download some apps to do this?

    thanks a million...

Well you can do it yourself. Get a USB key and install Knoppix (more involved) or SLAX (quite easy) on this key. I've never looked into it but there may be Splashtop mods that allow you to install it on a USB device? Google to find info about these Linux distros.

Maybe newer computers can also boot SD cards so that you don't have anything sticking out of your USB ports. (I believe mine doesn't boot from SD)

I don't know what the problem was, must have been described some pages ago, but it seems that your fan isn't following your temps properly? I suggest uninstalling and updating/reinstalling:
    - ATK drivers
    - Power4Gear Extreme

If that doesn't do the trick, try to replace Power4Gear by RMClock (with no undervolting, just frequency control).

I am not aware of any fan speed control applications that work with Santa Rosa or later notebooks.

I have external drive which has 2 connection. (usb 2.0 and E-sata). But I never test the transfer rate. I just use E-sata if I want to transfer large files (5 Gigs and up). I didn't notice any significant different except that if I use E-sata, I still have to connect the USB for power. If you tell me what apps for testing transfer rate, I can try it for you.

    @EBE
Yeah, my fan is behaving strange. Like what you said. It's not following with the CPU and GPU temps. Sometimes it runs on full speed, regardless of any apps running or idle and sometimes it runs really slow and quiet even when I'm playing games and I can boil an egg from the exhaust.. :) . I will try your suggestion today.
    Thank you...

Haha thanks for the suggestion about my screen Emporium, I meant my eyes can't focus well on the screen and I was wondering if it was the screen or me but today I was walking around and noticed my contacts are screwed up, I got to go get new ones. :) Brightness will help too

However I was looking at the screen compared to my girlfriend's inspiron and this one seemed like you could ever get the angle 100% like part of the screen was always dark ( like when you put the screen at an extreme angle and you cant see anything) Maybe its just the nature of things

    Hi,
I'm new around here but have been browsing a lot of the threads recently. I own an ASUS M50 Series M50Sa-AK023C NoteBook [Intel Core 2 Duo T9300(2.50GHz)/15.4" Wide SXGA+/4GB Memory DDR2 667/500GB HDD 5400rpm/DVD Super Multi/ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650]. I recall reading threads where the processor was undervolted and overclocked (to around 2.8ghz), and the video card overclocked, providing a significant boost in graphics power(5.1 on vista rating from the thread I saw). I was wondering if there are any downsides to these overclocks (ex. significantly higher temperatures, shorter battery life, stability issues, etc.). I just wanted to be sure that these overclocks were safe before I attempted them on my own. If anyone has any information feel free to share :)

I use XP pro sp3 and use the standby function daily without any issues.
Try pressing Fn + F8 or F7 if you see a black screen next time you resume from standby.

yea the whole overclocking is good to a point...you also have an ati card, and most of us have Nvidia cards....undervolting for me gives me about 15-30 minutes extra battery life depending on what I'm doing...overclocking the graphics card is simple with our nvidia cards...you don't want to go too high or youll burn it up faster, but if you test your overclocks using say 3dmark06 you can see what is stable and what is not...idk if that helped...
