Yes, I chose ground shipping cause I read the footnote that customer from AZ can just use ground shipping as the warehouse is just in CA. I checked this morning, the estimated arrival is May 13th...can't wait..

Hopefully they will have the same quick response and shipping for me! I wonder... Does GenTechPC have warranty on asus laptops aside from the normal 1yr accidental warranty and 2year part/service warranty by Asus? I wanted to clarify this but its a saturday so I guess theyre not in

Ken/Anyone: I ordered my laptop without actually creating an account in GenTechPC. Now I realized that in order to track the status of an order, I would have to create an account. Of course, when I created my account, the order is not tagged to my new account. Has anyone had this problem or would know how I can tag my order to my account so that I can track my order??? Someone please PLEASE help... Thanks!

    Hi folks,

Want to buy a new laptop in a ~week, I've thought that I'll go for a Thinkpad R61, great laptop for sure, but I was worried about its game performance.

Now, after reading some reviews (this one, for example, is really great), I'm seriously considering to buy this Asus. Only thing that bothers me is its chassis and build quality. Can someone provide more details ?

I'm have uses over 10 laptops including a couple of Asus laptops and never had any problem. Laptop, like most electronics device, should be handled with care. That means not flipping up the LCD too fast or too forcefully, no carrying it around in a backpack without a protective sleeve, etc, etc. I have seen how some kids treat their laptop and I would be surprise if the thing last them a year.

Hey guys! Maybe you can answer something for me about the warranty. I have a F3KA asus laptop, and I messed up the SD card reader! I know that thats not covered by the asus warranty since the physical damage is bue to my negligence, but does it also void the warranty as a whole? I mean, if another part of my laptop goes haywire, I can still avail my warranty for those items since it was not my fault, right? Ken/Anyone???

My earphones are plugged in now and I'm not hearing anything. My sound levels are up too.

Like I said in the other thread, if you enabled the EQ and select one of the environment settings on the RealTek HD Audio Manager, the sound will be artificially boosted and sometime you'll have noticeable distortions in the sound field. This is, IMO, what happen when you try to enhance the sound beyond its original encoding.

Beside that, I don't have any problems with the sound of my machine.

do you have anything in the usb ports? i dont have my eq on and i hear it only with i have something in the usb. it's wierd, it'll get louder the instant i lift my optical mouse up so the light sort of breaks contact with the surface and then get quieter again when i set it back down

Hi, great thread. I've also got one of these, (actually the sa, but they're both solid systems)

Another XP HD audio question/issue... I've got an "unknown device" under "other devices" in device manager. when I check the hardware ID in details for the properties it tells me its:
    HD AUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_1002&DEV_AA01&SUBSYS_00AA0100

So far I've installed XP SP3, the chipset software and all the drivers. All working very well except for this item (and the IR receiver, but thats expected). I can play sound with out problems, bluetooth and motorola modem drivers instaled and not errors either, but just wondering what I might be missing here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any info I need to provide to better diagnose this issue?

    Thanks

im getting mine today from fedex, ill post a little review of it. Anyways is it a good idea to install a fresh copy of vista with the discs it comes with once it arrives? because i dont think that will get rid of bloatware being it will probably be on the restore disc also, correct?

I don't know where you purchased yours....but in getting mine from XoticPc, they did a great job of making sure that the software was installed properly without any bloatware on it. The only program that I needed to remove was Symantec's Norton security program.

Here is what you do in order for u to take out the bloatware (Thanks to Ken for this information)

    1) Insert the Recovery Disc before turning on.
    2) When Asus logo appears, press esc key.
    3) Choose Boot from DVD.
    4) Choose Recover HD
    5) It will automatically Eject the Disc. When it asks to put in the drivers CD, DONT. Turn off the laptop.
    6) Turn On again. When the desktop appears, you have a clean vista.
    7) insert Driver CD and choose what to install. (Usualy drivers and recomended softwares).

Ken, kindly correct me if I missed a step!

Yes that covers the procedure to reinstall a clean copy of the OS.
But HaloGod2007 was asking whether to do that or just remove the bloatware.

There is some Vista bloatware, check my Vista Optimization guide for a list of things that you might want to remove. It'll take roughly an hour, less than recovering from the DVD and then installing the drivers. So it's up to you if you want to invest two-three more hours for the advantage of getting a clean install.

in his steps for 5 and 6, it says dont turn off the laptop, but then in 6 it says turn it on, how can you when its not off lol, does he mean after it asks you for the drivers to just let it shutdown by itself?

What I meant is if the system asks for the Drivers CD to be put in, dont put the driver CD in. Just turn off the laptop. Sorry!

Ordered from GenTech on Sunday evening, mid afternoon on Monday Ken called to confirm the order and it shipped THAT DAY (i chose self install for the OS else it would ship a day later). Got my tracking # and everything already, now ill just sit back and let it arrive, couldn't of been any easier.

Almost unheard of anymore that quick of a turnaround, its been a pleasure to order from Gentech and specifically to work with Ken on my order, he makes our life as the buyer easy. To all those asking what vendor to buy from, i strongly reccomend GenTech.
