Glad to see that tip has helped a couple folks. It's a quirky one.

So, my G60VX speakers are still dead. I'm sure it's the S/PDIF jack. I only have one set of headphones that will work now. Most won't. Has anyone made a run at replacing this jack? Any pics available? Just wondering what to expect in there as I'd prefer not to send it away to service.

I'm still liking it a lot, otherwise. Running dual boot Ubuntu/Windows 7 and having the second drive rocks.

Got my refurbished G60VX a couple of months ago from newegg. The first one was a bit of a dud. I posted that it had problems with the headphone jack and also had a lot of Best Buy bloatware. I paid $700 total for it to run Starcraft 2 and I had to install it a few times before getting an install without error messages and even then I was getting a bit of stuttering in the cinematic scenes.

After returning that unit to newegg and receiving a different refurbished unit everything has been perfect so far. No bloatware and it is running SC2 like a peach. Well worth $700! :D

I used the HDMI port to display it on the tv. I've never done this before and it seems like the edges of the screen were cut off so I'd probably have to adjust a display setting I'm guessing. Also I guess I would need external speakers because the laptop ones do not get loud enough.

Has anyone tried outputting this laptop to a 1920x1080 screen and then playing games/watching 1080p videos? I'd like to know how the laptop handles HD gaming and also HD videos.

PLEASE let me know soon. A guy is selling me his g60vx for $500.

I'm using an ASUS MS238H via HDMI as an external monitor. I have played CoD World at War, Mirror's Edge and NFS Shift so far and those games run just fine. I'm just a casual gamer though BTW.

Blu-ray movies play perfectly using TMT3. I use a Pioneer BDR-205 Blu-ray burner via eSATA using a VANTEC NST-530SU eSATA enclosure case as you can see in the pic.

OK... so i blew a power adapter the other day, think a capacitor blew, because it started squeaking at me.

I ordered a new one, and plugged it in... nothing. I then checked the adapter to make sure it was putting out voltage, and it is.

Any ideas? Could I have popped the Mobo? I called Asus and they said i was 3 days out of warranty so i am basically S.O.L... any ideas before i Mail it in to them?

How do I clean the speaker grill? I haven't been able to take the grill out.

    Can someone guide me?

You have to take the whole top case assembly off, which is more of a bother than it's worth. You can use a clean toothbrush or a screen brush to clean out the grille, and then blow some compressed air across it.

I saw from posts that the A01 motherboard series will take the Q9000 , but will the A03 series. Just picked this laptop up and want to try and max it out. Thanks

Just about time to get the crowbar out...

My S/PDIF headphone jack has given me fits for months. It's a well documented mechanical problem. Sometimes it just starts working normally, sometimes I have speakers and headphones at the same time, sometimes headphones but no speakers. Same issue for Windows and Ubuntu both -- it's the jack -- and I'm currently down to NO sound.

Anyway, I picked up a G60VX jack board off eBay a couple months ago -- because it was there. Figured I'd grab it while I could. I'm about ready to open this up but haven't been in from the top down, which I assume I have to do for this replacement.

Has anyone unearthed a disassembly guide for the G60VX?

Or are there any top-down disassembly pics you've found?

Or another model (like the G50?) that is close enough in design to give me an idea where to start and what to expect in there?

I'd rather not stretch/break something in the process since I use this one every day. Maybe I should buy a replacement first...
