I mean there is memory loss... 320 - 298 = 22 gb (44 gb in my case). not so much but still wonder where is the memory)

I am looking at a new laptop for work and am considering the Asus G60. I may not be playing a lot of games but am looking for a laptop that will last more than a couple of years. I am considering the Sony FW560 as well. It has better resolution, a bluray drive, and a slightly larger screen for the same price.

    Any thoughts?

If you don't game there is not much reason to get a G60, there are probably better options out there with better battery life, lighter, better cpu, etc that might fit better. But for someone looking for a value gaming laptop the G60 is hard to beat.

There is Bo memory loss that you speak of. When you format a hdd it loses roughly 7% of it's capacity. That is just how it works. Read that article eiment posted. Should give you more technical answer to it

I have the 195 drivers installed. Seems to cool off a lot quicker to me than the 186.62. But other than that seemed to work about the same

Some drivers are better than other.. thats about it.

I bought a Coolermaster cooler today... dont notice ANY difference in cooling.... im almost thinking coolers are a gimmick.

Please tell me its not true and i can lower my temps when gaming from 80C

Phew, went through almost ALL the pages in here and didn't see mention of the webcam.

For those who have the G60VX, what do you think about the webcam? I had heard a little bit of complaint about it being dark or just plain crappy, and indeed when I saw it in the store (though didn't have much time to change many settings due to a salesperson bugging me the whole time) the cam was a little on the poor side.

What do you think about it? I love the program it uses, though, with facial recognition, etc. :D

Honestly I rarely use my webcam.
But I just ran 3DMARK06 after doing some gaming for a while( L4D2 :D ) after posting what I thought my idle temps were a while back and this is what I got.
First attachment is with the CPU OC'd with power4gear(T9900) and the GPU OC'd to what I found is a sweet spot for my system.
Used the snipping tool right after I ran test to record temps
Second attachment are what my temps idle at when not under load just surfing the web .
So far everything is running great and I have never had any issues with this laptop.
I'm really happy with this laptop, best bang for the buck if you ask me.

Hey guys. I'm having problems with the sound on the laptop.
First of all, theres 3 "Audio Jacks" on the right side of the laptop.
Whenever I plug anything in it says " A device has been plugged in to the audio jack". It looks like one is a microphone jack, a speaker jack and a headphone jack. The headphone jack works great, but the (what I presume is) the speaker jack doesnt register with speakers, headphones or even audio outputs for that matter. Anyone else have this problem? Or can you help me with it?
Secondly, I tried the HDMI output on my brothers HD TV for the first time today, and he says that his playstation 3 sends sound and video through the HMDI cable alone to the TV. We couldnt get any audio to the TV, while the video did work...it was however, cut off a bit around the edges, and also lowered my desktop resolution. Anyone know why this is? And could it be related to the first sound problem im having? I only have a few more days left on the 2 weeks for returns and exchanges, and if it needs to be done I would appreciate if you guys could answer as soon as possible. Thanks alot. And great review Howard, it persuaded me to go buy this beast. :)

Isn't Asus bringing out new G series at the beginning of 2010 with the new nvidia 360gtx (+-1500€ ;)? There wil also be a new asus gaming laptop with corei5 and one of the new ati 5 series for only 900€, now thats what I call bang for the buck.

Edit: by the new G series I mean new hardware upgrades, the ugly lay out with the childish logo and bad cooling and overglossy screen will probably still remain

I'll post the link as soon as I can find it again. The article is dutch, but the table with the new asus laptop names and their cores and gpu's is prefectly understandable. I'll post as soon as my friend who gave that link to me comes online.

    Stay tuned :p

    Edit: Found it: http://notebookspot.nl/nieuws/164/1/prijzen-arrandale-notebooks-lekken-uit.html

Edit: that same article has a link to another table with more details about the asus laptops: http://www.hardware.info/nl-NL/prod...5ibmJLKYcg,bGpka5ibmJLKZcg,bGpka5ibmJLKZsg,!/

Man does ASUS turnover these laptops quick!
New hardware is great but customers are going to start getting pissed when they find out new gpu's are going to start coming out so soon.
Still I'm very happy with my laptop with the 260M GTX, played L4D2 on it last night and fps was over 100 which is damn good, settings were all very high with AA enabled
I just wonder what the lid is going to look like?

    O well.
New hardware means it's a win for new customers, we probably won't see these for a few months anyway.

Im gona try to help but i dont own one, but very similar G51.

The first (bottom) should be analog mic in, the 3rd (headphone jack), 2nd should be line out (but i think its coaxial, but you have to enable it thru your Realtek options for it to send the sound there).

Check both Realtek audio n Nvidia control planel to see the HDMI options. I havent tried it but probably there is an option there to enable or disable the sound.

Ok, so I went to the realtek options when i plugged the speakers into the line in jack. and it reads it on the right side of the realtek menu, saying that there is something plugged in, but when i go to the line-in tab it wont let me set it as the default device. its greyed out.

It looks to me like this is a line-in, rather than a line out. Its reading it as a line in, but when I go to the sound options in control panel it says there is a line out available. And also in the Realtek options there is a tab for digital output. What is this used for?

Try updating or reloading the Realtek drivers again from the driver disc it came with.
    Stock drivers.
When I installed the T9900 I used IC7 Diamond thermal paste on both the CPU and GPU, that helped alot.
Maybe I'm just lazy or whatever but they seem to work fine as it is
Why fix something if it's not broke. ;)

If you want better overall performance go for the G60VX.
The 260M GTX is much more powerful than a ATI HD4650.
Don't get me wrong the N81VP is a very nice laptop but one thing going against it is it's huge for a 14 incher, it's almost as big as the G60VX.
You can always OC the stock CPU or add a new one for more power as well, the GPU is not so easy to replace or cost effective.

    Thanks IKAS V

But it balances the T9600 processor has N81vp-D1, unlike G60vx that has a P7450, I doubt that much difference exists as a machine which is definitely better. For several days I am looking for information to decide and I read all the issues related to the two laptop

Yeah, it has Dual 320 GB Drives.

The 149s are logical partitions. You can "Manage" your computer and delete the second partition and then expand the first one to reduce the number of logical drives.

Most new games are more GPU dependent than CPU dependent.
    RTS not withstanding.
The P7450 is not that bad and handles most games pretty good.
    OC it and it's better.
Swap out the old CPU for a T9900 or X9100 for best results.
As you can see 3DMARK06 over 12000 at the laptops native resolution is pretty good :D
Gaming with both the GPU and CPU OC'd works very nice with no problems.
