Pressing [ESC] is the only way to install via dvd or cd (if you haven't changed the boot order in the bios).
The problem is that when I use the system recovery dvd it places an image on either the new SSD or on the "old" hdd. I think it installs on the "old" hdd (although I am not sure about it). The reason I do not know is because the system does not start up correctly. Here I think the problem is that the Master boot record is on the wrong hdd, since it is not made on the SSD because the recovery dvd only recovers the OS and not the MBR.
Currently I have installed windows 7 on the SSD by using a official installation DVD. Now the MBR is on the SSD. I will try to run the recovery DVD again and pray that it recovers on the SSD since this is drive 0 in the bios.
If it works it means that:
- The recovery DVD installs on drive 0 (zero, set in bios)
- When a hdd is replaced, or extra hdd is inserted on which the OS should be "recovered" one should first make a MBR on this harddisk. (most probably this can be done easier than the way I did)
Fingers crossed.. there we go
-
try disconnecting the main hd?
-
Soon I can post if it worked out or not. -
It works, so when having a G60V and you replace the hdd or add an hd you should take into account the following points:
- The recovery DVD installs on drive 0, meaning if you add an extra hdd and you want to "install" windows on this drive using the recovery dvd (supplied with the labtop) then you have to change the hdd order in the bios.
- When a hdd is replaced, or extra hdd is inserted on which windows should be "installed/recovered" one should first make a MBR on this harddisk. (most probably this can be done easier than the way I did (see earlier post)).
Mabye this is just common knowledge.. but this was all new for me -
Asus just posted a new bios version 205! anyone know what new in it??
-
Try it and tell us!
-
Can you upgrade this to 6 or 8GB of ram?
-

Yes and yes.
-
One know anything about the new bios update? Where do I get it and how do I install it?
-
Thanks Forge for the response. Maybe I will upgrade not sure yet.
I just bought G60vx as it is a Christmas gift from my wife so I don't even have it opened yet (not allowed).
I already bought a Intel 160gb ssd drive for it. Looking for a t9900 cpu, I have one on backorder from hp. Have no clue if and when they will get one.
Looking for the 2nd hdd bracket (everyone is OOS)
Sony BD-5730S-01 6X Blu-ray SATA Slim which I can find and buy.
Trying to find the T9900 for $400 or under seems impossible!
From what I see in pictures online the cooling in this sucks. Anyway, time to figure out a better way to cool it.

I was wondering, once I finally get my hands on mine, what should I update and not update out of the things listed on the Asus Support page? Am I supposed to just download everything on there? Or are only certain things useful (like the BIOS and whatnot)? And where do I put the files when I download them?
I really don't know anything about this kind of stuff. D: -

Just kill off any bloatware and download the new drivers from the Asus site. Also, try downloading 186.82 GPU drivers, since those seem to be the go-to drivers for most of the G-series crowd. When you download them, just put them in a folder and run them to install. However, with a GPU driver you should try a clean install of that.

Forge,
I went with a X9100 (OEM and used) $257.00 on ebay... can't beat the price I guess. Too bad the QX9300 doesnt work with our board or I would of looked into it.
Too bad you cant add another fan. -
Keep us up to date how the upgrading goes.
if possible.. can you post pictures how to do that?
I am thinking of pimping my system too.
With the SSD it already improved a lot, now I am aiming for another CPU
What does the new Bios bring us? improvements or? -
Whats funny is I havent even turned it on yet and bought upgrades. Wife bought it for me as a christmas gift so , I am not allowed to open it.
Just bought 8gb of ram for it and a 6x blu ray burner/reader.
My plan is turn it on first make sure it works then do the upgrades. -
Thanks for the starting the owners' lounge!
I have added it to the Info Booth and to the Reviews and Owners' Lounges Index.

figured it out....

Now I know why my laptop fan doesn't cool my cpu/gpu. It FRIGIN useless to try and force weak air through 7 holes the size of PENCIL LED!. I drilled holes in my laptop bottom and now i went from mid 80's Celsius to mid 70's Celsius playing BFBC2 without the fans running on the laptop cooler! Im going to mod the cooler anyway with a slim 120mm fan. I should get mid 60's to low 70's with the fan.

hey guys i got my asus G60vx last month. Today i realized that the dvd drive decided to stop working. i think its a mechanical problem because everytime i put in a dvd there is a mechanical noise and then it stops reading. So when i double click in the drive the drive ejects and asks me to put in a disk. I was wondering if anyone had the same problem with this model before? Should i talk to asus about this? I think i still have warranty.

Hi all, got my G60vx rbbx05 yesterday at Best Buy. It was an open box special, at $699 it was an impulse buy. Really pleased with it so far, but I am making a to do list for the future (cpu upgrade, SS drive, fan and screen upgrades)
As with any open box item, it didn't come with the Windows 7 and install/apps dvds. I've looked all over the Asus website, and while I've found drivers and updates, they don't have everything.
Will they mail out discs? -
Hi guys I bought this laptop on november last year...it's there a way to remove the keyboard from this baby? there isn't any disassembly guide at the moment thanks!
-
Theres little marks on the top end of the keyboard in which a flathead screwdriver will fit in and the keyboard will pop right up.
Be careful not to rip the wire that it is connected to though. -
I know this is an old post but also be careful of the double sided tape under the keyboard pry it carefully. A friend of mine just ripped on his and pulled the backing off the KB, and had to replace the unit. =)

Just got mine a week ago for $669 at newegg. So far its a good pc havent done any intense gaming yet.
-
-
Just got mine at Bestbuy for $629 There was only one at my local bestbuy, even checked a 100 mile radius, I was realllllly lucky since they have stopped bringing this lappy in stock anymore.
Just installed SC2 and can't wait to start tweaking it -
Now only if we could upgrade the GPU, not sure if its possible to put a 460m in or a Radeon 5870. My guess the cooler would not work as both of these cards put out more heat.

Some odd things with my G60. Every once in a while it will start beeping for no reason. Does anyone have that happen with theirs? Also for some reason I cant get my wireless to work. It was working fine one day then all of a sudden its not working. I've tried the switch on front, Fn and F2 and even going into the device manager has not gotten it to work. Has anyone else had this problem?
-
I tried installing Trainz 06 on my G60. It installed fine but whenI went to run the program it says my cpu is running at 817mhz instead of at 2.13ghz that its supposed to be. Is it initially set low and I have to manually increase the speed or is there a problem?
-
Ugh I'm having overheating issues now with mine purchased way back in 09 probably will get a new notebook soon any suggestions i opened it up but there wasn't a whole lot of dust and stuff inside like i thought there would be.
